Drew doesn’t just throw the ball. Getting rid of him would be insane.

Horrible post. Not a single poster wants us to "move on from Drew".
What some of us want is a contract that is not overly generous to Drew, for a change.
With his hardball tactics, many of us doubt he will be a fair bargaining partner, and will instead hold his glorious past over our head instead of being a class act like Tom Brady and John Elway, who took market value in their later years to help the franchises that gave them so much.
A fair contract for Brees would be something like a 4 years, $80 million deal that is heavily front-loaded.
I guar-fricking-tee you that Brees will demand something insane like 5 years, $135 million. Guarantee it. Dude scounges for every damn penny he can, tries actively to destroy an entire po boy industry in New Orleans by importing his shite Yankee sandwiches to make even MORE money, and then donates a fricking $25,000 playground that he probably got Avacor or whatever his sham health product is to pay for and acts like he's Jesus Christ or something.

Seriously, a classy move would be for Brees to partner with a local New Orleans po boy purveyor and export our superior product to fricking Lafayette, IN and his BELOVED San Diego.
Instead he does the opposite and brings his crap Jimmy John's to New Orleans, opening up shop and popping in next to local middle class entrepreneurs to steal their livelihood. Then he drives his $100,000 Tesla or Range Rover back to his $8,000,000 second mansion, dreaming of how soon he can get back to his main home in SoCal. Disgusting, greedy poseur.

I have no problem with Brees, and if the alternative to him at $25,000,000 is Cousins also at $25,000,000 or Manning at $18,000,000 then I want to keep Brees. But if I can get Mayfield for five years for about $6,000,000 per year then I have a tough decision.

no one "wants him gone" but he isnt the same player he was even just a few years ago so its insane not to already have another QB on the roster you feel good about if they had to play the last 15 games of the season and win most of them if drew gets hurt in game 1.
its called being realistic and not being so much a fanboy you put your head in the sand and dont want to admit we have a real problem at the backup QB spot.
you cant wait until drew cant play, whether by leaving or injury, and then say "ok we just need to go get another top 5 QB at the QB store"

We did that in 2015, it didn't work out, but people went apeshit for them even trying.

I'd legit rather Cousins for 5 years $125MM than Brees for 5 years $125MM at this stage of their careers.
I'd also rather Foles on a "prove me" 2 year $30MM deal than Brees at a 5 year $125MM deal.
Eli sucks nobody wants him and he's not a legit option.
Hopefully Brees will take a 3 year $60 million dollar deal so everybody wins. But we all know that he won't.

you're risking a lot more
Cousins has done well, but its more than just yards and an arm. the IQ isn't there with how many crucial mistakes he's made this year alone.
Brees has had his fair share (atlanta) but he's made great ones as well.

Nuts, Foles on a 2/11mil was already wth

I remember the Aaron Brooks days all too well..

don’t want him gone but I think we should definitely have a suitable replacement sitting on the bench waiting in the wings and learning
There are no understudy QB's in the league anymore. If you're a stud QB that gets drafted you start. Drew will probably play one season to long, we drop to high draft position, and hopefully pick up our next QB.

3 years, $70-75 million would be a far more fair and realistic deal.

I remember the painful 90’s. I’d take drew on his worse day over billy joe Hobert, billy joe tolliver, Heath shuler, Danny wuerffel, wade Wilson, Steve Walsh, and mike buck on their best day.
