Falcons have 1 big problem. Matt Ryan.

I'd add a few more: Ryan's biggest problem with success is he's played behind some of the most inconsistent olines. Strong oline is a major factor for Watson. WHo will he work with, Patterson, Pitts and ???
Arthur Smith doesn't come across as a HC that will wow someone
Falcons had the 29th rated defense in 2021

They just renegotiated Ryan's contract, so releasing him would cost them more than having him sit behind Watson while having a $36.7M cap hit

It may be likely that atlanta is trying to drive the price up.

I could see this being the case, but it also sours the well a bit with Matt Ryan. They may not care though since his career is almost over.

The guy has a deposition TODAY. This thing would never be done prior to that.

I do anticipate the depo day bringing about potential settlement talks on the civil components. Especially if Watson is ready to move on with his life.

What reason would Houston have for trading for Ryan. Because thats the only way this would work. They are nowhere near contention level. Getting Ryan will do nothing for them

Ryan does not have to be in the deal. He could be traded/released. They have enough options to create cap space even with the dead cap hit of getting rid of Ryan. I think we are about to come in 2nd yet again.

I know the cap can be manipulated.

But im having a hard time seeing how ATL can pay Watson and having Ryans cap hit at the same time as well.

Maybe Fontenot has picked up a few tricks lol

Why? They can restructure Jones and even Jarrett with a void year. Fontenot and Pace know the tricks. They learned under Loomis.

Yeah I’m losing confidence. We are always a finalist team to get a big name but never get chosen. Hope I’m wrong

Well thats not what you want. Given his roots in the Atlanta area and childhood ties to the Falcons, that might change things for him.

@ArmandoSalguero

The meeting with Atlanta is Wednesday. Current #Falcons QB Matt Ryan has a $36.6M cap hit this year, per @Jason_OTC and trading him would leave Falcons with between $28M-$55M in dead money. So not easy.

They are meeting with him tomorrow.

So this thing has no end in sight.

That is not great. As this stretches on, more and more FAs sign elsewhere. If Jameis signs elsewhere we are in trouble.

I definitely wonder if the Falcons are dragging this process out to hurt the Saints or Panthers.

We'd then have to pay big to the 49ers or draft a qb

If the Saints are stupid enough to not insist it gets done today, then they will lose any leverage they have moving forward. I can’t see Winston waiting much longer as it will lower his value and get him less of a deal.

If tell the Texans and Watson to shite or get off the pot, because they are the ones with limited leverage.

Let Watson go to one of the three dumpster fires and wallow in mediocrity.

I think the “he’s not going to sign with the Saints, he wants to play at home“ narrative is so stupid. Players give less of a crap about that than you think.

As badly as they want him, the Saints need to put a deadline on him. Can't let him drag his feet on this decision while backup options end up elsewhere.

I dont want to hear shite about having Watson on our team from rivals if we do get him....every team is linked to him. If we dont have morals neither do they lol
