Can someone explain to me why Pierre Thomas gets flagged for celebration after that dance (his first TD) but any player in Green Bay jumps into the stands and the officials dont bat an eye?

It seems to me like this is a rule that is applied at the subjective whim of the refs at the game.

"During the touchdown, Pierre Thomas' simple hula dance celebration drew a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty when TE Jeremy Shockey tried to join him. The NFL prohibits celebrations by more than one player."

Someone threw a plastic beer bottle on the field. That's what they said the reason for the flag.

that was more than just shockey down there, there were like 4 of them all doing the same stupid dance.

The coaching staff needs to start fining people for unsportsmanlike flags. We handed the falcons the ball at midfield for that stupid shite

if thats the case, I say we nominate a Saints fan to travel to all the away games and throw a beer bottle when the opposing team scores so they get penalized and the Saints get good field position

That may be true but I remember reggie getting flagged in the NFC championship game for waving bye bye to urlacher and again on a punt return for a TD in washington last year. I also remember lance moore drawing the same penalty in London last year after scoring a TD for a jig that he did in the endzone. I am simply saying that If you penalize one person penalize them all or the credibility of the game suffers.

Wouldn't that be taunting, an entirely different penalty?

They did at first, but then they said the real reason it was for

Didn't Pierre hold the ball out right before he scored? They could've flagged him for that.

The NFL is a fans leauge and it exists soley to serve the fan. Without fans it will struggle to exist. See MLS, XFL, AFL(arena) and soon NHL.
Seriously most fans like the celebrations and it is stupid to penalize or fine players for an act that gives fans something to talk about and that adds to the excitement of the game. I favor making this not a penalty. There is a reason why many refer to the NFL as the No Fun Leauge.

no, they didnt throw the flag for another 15 seconds until after he unleashed his Dancing With the Stars audition tape.

Where did you find this quotation?

He was Swagg Surfing ...

and Shockey was trying to high five him but apparently didn't understand the Swagg Surf.

NFL being a fans league is the best explanation I've heard yet. Still, they shouldnt penalize some and not others. I agree that they should either do away with the rule or enforce it with uniformity

Yeah I figured it was Shockey when after the next touchdown he immediately threw up his hands like "Look! I'm not doing anything" and ran back to the sidelines.
