The New Orleans Saints still need to address the DT position. Although they signed Nathan Shephard and Khalen Saunders, they still only have 3 DTs on the roster. The team lost David Onyemata to the Falcons, Shy Tuttle to the Panthers, and Malcolm Roach declined a two-year deal from the team. The DT market is rather thin, but there are a few solid options. One of those options is veteran Shelby Harris. The Seattle Seahawks released the 31-year-old yesterday. Harris had a good season but was set to make $9 million this season, and the Seahawks were able to clear $8.9 million of it by releasing him. This is what likely led to his release rather than poor play. He also hinted about potentially being released on social media.
Harris is a solid replacement for Onyemata. He was one of the three players traded for in the infamous Russell Wilson trade. Last year. he started 15 games and showed he’s a great run-stopper. Player Profiler credited him with 11 run stuffs. This ranked twelfth in the league. Harris also earned a 73.2 PFF grade. This ranked 17th among all DTs in 2022.

Harris can easily come in and be a day-one starter. He could also be a great mentor if the team decides to draft a DT in the first round. The team would likely not need to break the bank for Harris.

Wonder if they have sniffed this at all.

are you sure this wasnt a release then resign tomorrow deal?

it sounds like he could really help us if he really is a FA, and not something preplaned to resign with them tomorrow

Not a clue. I do know that this isn't the time for teams to play around someone can come along and swipe them up. Like us.

I believe Malcolm Roach will change his mind quick when he realizes he has no options out there. He's looking to cash in like Onyemata and Tuttle did.

Would make a lot of sense.

Drafted in the 7th round in 2014 by the Oakland Raiders and guess who?

Roach turning down a 2yr deal is baffling. He's expecting a market for a rotation dt that's average? Or is he looking for more snaps. I imagine the latter?

Yeah, that is strange. Hopefully, they upgrade from roach.

I would've liked to sign jarran reed and shelby harris.

I actually really like both shepherd and saunders.

Yes we should. We need another vet DT and we need to use one of our top 2 picks on the DL. If you can get him for $6-7 million you do it.

Building a roster with players who have no options is usually not a recipe for success.

Gonna be a long year for you I think.
Even longer IF...

Carr can help the coaches find a identity on offense.

Three guys play 15 of 17 games, Penning, Peat and Thomas we will have a good record.

Of course the "ifs" have not been our friend for over a decade.

See a lot of fan site articles suggesting gave Jackson. I like it. We could use some depth on oline

Gabe jackson is washed. I'd Rather spend a top 4 round pick on the o line.
