Highest/lowest graded Saints players vs. SF, per @PFF (min. 25 snaps):

Offense
Highest
1. Rattler
2. Olave
3. Shaheed
4. Fuaga
5. Kamara

Highest graded offense player through 2 games : Spencer Rattler

PFF is actually grading every play. Apparently they missed the abundance of bad passes that Ancient Astronaut, EliEoos and Htran charted. You know they were analyzing every play

quote:

The PFF grading system is all about isolating the quarterback’s performance on a given play. We bring context to every throw, with a focus on timing, decision-making, accuracy and much more. Raw passing stats are often a gauge of the passing offense, and pass defense, as a whole, the PFF system is measuring the quarterback’s contribution to that production.

He played better than week 1, there was still a lot of issues, but he did play better.

Its still just "fine".

He’s played better than I expected through 2 games but he still ain’t the long term solution at QB. He’ll be a fine backup though

There wasn’t a lot of bad. It’s a typical QB week. You see what you want to see and perhaps amplify a mistake you deem egregious.

PFF is unbiased. Rattler had a 52 grade from their publication in 2024. He’s up to 79.7 this season. 5.5% of his on target throws have been dropped. His adjusted comp % is 73.3%. I don’t think he’s Drew Brees but to blow off this marked improvement is foolish

I saw some issues, PFF is not the be all and end all, they are a nice metric to use. Another data point.

If Rattler is starting in Game 5 that tells me the coaching staff thinks he is playing well despite the losses

It is when fans are incapable of removing their bias. Everyone watched the same game, yet, the range of takes on his play are all over.

And of course there is bad, like every QB. For instance they have him with 3 turnover worthy plays on the year despite him not throwing an INT.

The focus is the improvement. Like the whole team, the process is way more important than the results right now.

I would like to see Rattler on some designed runs. He’s quick and good after contact when he has some momentum going.

Rattler had an 86.1 grade against the SF’s Blitz Sunday, 2nd highest in the NFL.

Top PFF Grades - Week 2

Jayden Daniels 94.2
Bo Nix 91.8
Matt Stafford 90.5
Spencer Rattler 89.7

B2B weeks in the Top 5 overall QB PFF grades.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pills reading some of these takes

It’s weird to hate a QB on your own team, especially given the landscape of our roster. You can see the Ratt king is forcing them to start at least giving backhanded compliments

If Johnson doesn't drop that TD pass in the 4th against Arizona, we're 1-1.

It's unreal the amount of hate he gets when you factor in the crap around him. Also for all the dumb asses that say he's the checkdown king, has anyone ever thought that could be the game plan since all of our other deficiencies on this team? Working the clock, minimizing possessions and hoping to keep it a 4th Q game. Trying to get in track meets with any team with our current roster would be retarded. I guess taking care of the football is not good to these morons on here.

Maybe he can turn it around by, I don’t know, winning a game or two (or nine)?

As a 5th rounder who doesn't even have a full season worth of starts under his belt, he's playing way above his draft slot. He's an asset to the roster right now in terms of his contract. He becomes an even bigger asset if he continues to develop & show progress like he has.

The hate from some against Rattler seems to be for two reasons. They associate being an NFL QB & success with being a 1-3 round draft pick. They can't wrap their heads around the fact that the Saints have a 5th round pick as their starting QB so in return they view the fact that he was taken late in the draft as he must suck. On the other hand they feel that since Shough was taken in the 2nd round that he must be good or better than Rattler.

The other reason is that they are panicking & don't want the Shough selection to become a "wasted" pick. Well tough titty. He's a second rounder, not a first rounder. He's not going to get the same push to start as first round, top 10 pick would. Those are just facts.

I don't hate Rattler at all. I think he is playing fine. Even well at times.

I see what I see, I see a guy that can be fine but can't elevate a team at all.

Yet.

He has a few weeks to keep getting better. The next two weeks are against much better D's. If he keeps playing well then I will certainly give him all the credit

How can anyone definitively say this when he's a developing player in the developmental process?
