they honored him right away even though he only spent a few years there
He is essentially the "founding father" of the Carolina Panthers organization. He spent his twilight years playing there and helped coach the team to a Super Bowl while battling cancer. He was inspirational in so many ways for that entire club and his importance to Carolina probably affected how the Saints handled the situation. Not that I agree with it taking this long. I've already said how much I revere the man.

Meh to them he was like Vilma was to us, and they were eager for some history, so they really hyped up their relationship. He was more a Saint than a Panther and it’s really not close.
I kind of resent that they usurped his legacy from us.

Someone in the Saints organization dropped the ball and completely forgot about Sam Mills. Before the Superdome renovations, Sam Mills had a blue banner hanging in the rafters next to the others: Manning, Maravich, Finks, Jackson, Dixon, and Robinson. Mills was recognized by the State, Superdome, Saints ??? with a banner yet his induction into the Ring of Honor should have been done years ago, at lease before Will Smith IMO. It is what it is , just glad to see this finally happening.
