we spent 2 picks for him, a first and second round. not a lot considering the grade he had in the draft, that he was the player the front office targeted and that he wouldn't be there when our next pick were to come around.

nothing this FO does is a "knee jerk reaction". there was serious concern about Ivory's injury, one that kept him out of the first 6 weeks of the season. We didn't have Sproles at the time, and Thomas has been relatively injury prone during his career. The Saints saw a franchise back, and they gave up one extra draft pick to get him.

Hindsight is an advantage that no one has. Moves can only be made based on facts at a specific time, and there was way too much uncertainty at the position during draft time last year.

Fair criticism would be to say that we shouldn't have made a move for a position with such little value in Payton's offense. To me that's a valid point, because we don't run the ball consistently enough to value the RB position so high. A first and second round pick for a 10-12 carry/game player is a bit much.
