Like Matthieu coming here. As an lsu fan I’d absolutely love it if he came back to Nola. I think it would make him that much more of a celebrity/legend around south Louisiana

Obviously burrow going back to cincy is one bc he’s a generational talent is an example I can think of.

Do other fan bases want hometown guys back as bad as we want tyrann or is it just certain polarizing guys like them?

I would think so. Most fan bases' fans are from that area so of course they'd feel more of a bond with someone that is "one of us"

Fanbases with a college like LSU and one of the players is a LIVING LEGEND….yeah lol.

He ain’t just a “hometown guy”. He’s a top 10 LSU player ever and probably everyone’s 2nd favorite LSU player

And I mean CJ and Tyrann playing the two box safety role would terrorize the field. It makes sense if Tyrann went to any other school. IMO.

I think it has more to do with getting a player that you are familiar with. He is a name that people know.

I'd say probably but not to this extent. As much as LSU player obsession stuff annoys me as a Saints fan (and I say that as an LSU fan), I will for sure admit that the fans are simply unlike any other. I've lived in a lot of different places with "blue blood" football programs and stuff and nowhere else is like Louisiana when it comes to this

You don’t think folks in Jacksonville are ecstatic when a premier Florida or Florida St player comes to the Jags? Wisconsin fans in Green Bay, Michigan/Mich St fans in Detroit, Ohio St fans in Cleveland, UGA/GaTech fans in Atlanta, and Clemson fans in Charlotte feel similarly.

Look at the Tebow jersey sales in Jacksonville when he was only there for like a couple months before getting cut. I also remember alot of Falcons fans having a hardon for DJ Shockley who never even took a regular season snap. It's definitely not a unique phenomenon to us

I always assumed this was normal for all local fan bases (not the bandwagon fans). Growing up the local guys were some of my favorite players in 80s-90s. Hilliard, Martin, Hebert, Fourcade, and Gajin come to mind.

A contingent of Texans fans really really wanted the team to draft Vince in 2006 bc he was a hometowner. Ironic that he wound up on the Titans.

Yeah, Falcons fans nearly lost their minds thinking they were getting a savior in Watson who grew up just outside of Atlanta and was once a Falcons ball-boy as a kid. Then he ended up actually obliterating their whole season and left them with an uncertain future.

There have been many times I've wanted elite LSU players who actually fit a glaring need the Saints had, only to see them end up on a divisional rival's squad. But the LSU players from NOLA/BR/South La. would've been particularly sweet (Mathieu, OBJ, Landry, Chase, Jefferson, etc.)

Often though, I've found myself wishing the best for non-LSU Greater NOLA guys except for when they play the Saints, but secretly wishing in an alternate dimension they could've originally been Saints: Peyton/Eli Manning, Ed Reed, Marshall Faulk, Reggie Wayne, etc
