Usually preseason success means regular season failure.

I agree. But I’m almost certain they were 4-0 that rookie season then a long time before they had a winning season.

Thanks Mecom.

Said saints have never gone undefeated in preseason.

Don’t mean a thing but I’d think they got their facts right

Up until the 1978 season, teams played 14 regular season games and 6 preseason games. The 1967 Saints lost their first preseason game to the Rams, played in Anaheim. They went on to win the next 5 preseason games, playing in Shreveport, Tiger Stadium, Portland, Oregon and Charleston, South Carolina before playing their last preseason game in Tulane Stadium.

WWL had a quick segment about it in pregame. They said saints are the only team in the NFL to not have a single undefeated preseason.

I think that is perception more than reality. I did a deep dive into preseason records. I only looked at winning seasons and here is the data I found.

6 preseasons above 0.500
7 preseasons at 0.500
3 preseasons below 0.500

2009 (Superbowl Season) Regular Season 13-3, Preseason 3-1

2011 Regular Season 13-3, Preseason 2-2

2018 Regular Season 13-3, Preseason 3-1

2019 Regular Season 13-3, Preseason 2-2

1987 Regular Season 12-3, Preseason 3-1

1992 Regular Season 12-4, Preseason 3-1

2020 Regular Season 12-4, No preseason due to COVID

1991 Regular Season 11-5, Preseason 2-2

2010 Regular Season 11-5, Preseason 2-2

2013 Regular Season 11-5, Preseason 3-1

2017 Regular Season 11-5, Preseason 2-2

1988 Regular Season 10-6, Preseason 2-2

2000 Regular Season 10-6, Preseason 1-3

2006 Regular Season 10-6, Preseason 1-3

1989 Regular Season 9-7, Preseason 1-3

2002 Regular Season 9-7, Preseason 3-1

2021 Regular Season 9-8, Preseason 1-1

Does that mean anything? Not really, in part because a lot of that is dependent on the coach's attitude toward preseason, maybe more than talent and players, especially the final game of preseason.
