DE's and hybrids are the league's leading sack and TFL getters. TF?!

Imagine watching that game and coming away thinking Davenport was a problem for the saints.
Imagine going 2 pages into a thread arguing with every single other person on the semantics regarding whether Davenport has enough stats to consider him elite after seeing what he can do.
Hendrickson had 6 sacks in his first 40 games. Davenport had 11 in his first 26. We can play this stat game all day. But what we do know is that both of these players are a god damn force.

That tells me two things then.
1. You don’t understand football. A DE rarely shows up in stats. The best thing for a DE is to be a disruptor. He doesn’t have to make the play to make plays.

nah... our DE's rarely show up in stats lol. The best thing for a DE is to pressure and sack the QB not occasionally "blow up" the starting tackle and get an almost sack. Davenport is the king of almost sacks.

aka pressures. DEs with high pressure percentages will get sacks at some point. They nearly always come in waves but Davenport's biggest problem is time on the field. If he stays healthy, he'll have the numbers. Every metric supports that he's on the verge of blowing up.

Good Lord man you're are making it blatantly obvious you only look at stats and can't judge a player.

You really are a moron. You think there are only 32 edge rushers even though there are at least 2 starters on every team? Davenports ranking has been impacted by his injuries significantly.

Who's the moron? Me, or the guy who can't read? Did you even try to read the article the other guy linked? The article, NOT ME, listed Davenport 26th out of the 32 rushers it listed.

I've seen a few metrics that suggest otherwise

So you watched every play and don't notice him blowing up the tackle or in some cases the guard on damn near every play? More than once he got double teamed and still made both linemen his bitch. His bull rush may be the best I've ever seen from a Saints player. Does he have health issues? Absolutely. When he's on the field, though, he's by far the biggest disruptor up front.

For example: Underhill after watching the tape just said Davenport may have been the best player on the field yesterday.

Now think about how good Demario and Alvin were...

I'm not trolling at all. Davenport had a nice game. I just don't see any justification for calling him an elite defensive end in the league.

Exactly, thanks for sharing. You have to be available to play to be considered elite.

I think you’re overlooking a key point to the OP and several of the posters agreeing with him; they are saying Davenport is elite when healthy. 2 factors here: they are not saying he’s an elite DE because they acknowledge the injury issues (everyone does); and he was not healthy all 39 games he played. He actually tried to play through some injuries his first 2 years. So, saying elite when healthy, would obviously eliminate some (probably most) of those 39 games.

But, as you said (any everyone agreed) can’t be considered elite if you spend more time in the medical tent than the field
