This guy lays out all the data that shows how the refs are not just calling more penalties on the Saints but also the type of penalties (everything is normal until we try to get a 3rd down stop) as well as how all of our opponents seem to magically never get penalized when they play us.

I’d say it’s an enjoyable read but it mostly pisses me off

From your link:

And here’s another tidbit:   “First downs by penalty.”  Right now, the Saints have 11 FDs by penalty, and their opponents….34.  Minus twenty-fricking-three??

Since the bye the opponents have 21 first downs by penalty.

The Saints have 2 first downs by penalty.

This really needs to become a national story. Florio may cover it but probably no one else.

This seems like a local writer, no one will care.
It appeals to us because we always feel like we are getting hosed.

The only way to get more clicks for this writer, is to lead in the article about Brady`s "Mysterious Hit to the Chest" Roughing the passer Call that kept the Pats in the AFC Championship Game, which let the Pats back in. I think Chiefs got hosed that championship game.

Then you lead into the NFC championship game.

Then you stack it with the Statistics that this writer laid into.

Which honestly, Im either thinking this is a sloppy team or im ready to put my foil hat on and believe that there is a reason for all of these calls.

Its frustrating.

Great 2-part article.

What he points out is a statistical impossibility

Most of the calls are legit. They just aren’t calling them evenly.

You’ve heard the saying “the refs are letting them play”? Well - that’s how they are treating our opponents. They are letting them play. But not us.

The stat was not as bad while Drew was out of the lineup.

Before the bye, Saints opponents had 13 first downs by penalty to the Saints 9 first downs by penalty.

When Brees returned to the lineup, the full court press to suppress the Saints began.

you can call a penalty on nearly every play in an NFL game if you wanted to. the criteria to do so should be "did the infraction affect the play on the field?"

if it did, then so be it.
if it did not, let it go.

The hands to the face the other night where the offensive players was 3x worse was the final straw for me. Just absolute blatant disregard for the other side of the ball. Seems like all were getting is the False starts they literally can’t ignore.

Meanwhile...Green bay is plus 25 in first downs by penalty which is equally insane to me.

Im not saying every team should be equal but to have a team hurt that much (Saints) and helped (Greenbay) that much is insanity

This is what I'm seeing as well. Most of our penalties are justified. The problem is that the other team isn't being called for obvious penalties.

I've seen an absurd amount of 'hands to the face' infractions that just don't get called against the other team. Our D-Linemen are getting held a lot as well.

I'm choosing to look the other way right now, but if this keeps happening for like another couple of weeks...I probably won't be able to just gloss over it anymore.

I think it's starting to get under CSP's skin as well. He's doing the smart thing & keeping his mouth shut, but he'll probably snap eventually.

When GB was going against the lions on Monday night football and they got not one but two hands to the face penalties on third down where they failed to convert that extended the drives. The first wiped away a 11 yard sack and allowed Rodgers to throw a TD a few plays later. The second gave the packers a first down after the lions used all of their timeouts to leave some time to get back into field goal range. It allowed the packers to run out the rest of the clock and kick a game winner as time expired.
On replay both penalties looks like he was grabbing his collar and pushing up which isn't a penalty. These calls directly impacted the outcome of the game and are inexcusable. It seems even worse then the NFCCG no call because instead of passively not calling something they actively called something incorrectly and swung the game.

In the last four Saints games, opponents first downs by penalty against the Saints account for 62% of all opponents first down by penalty against the Saints for the season.

This is a huge statistical spike representing just 25% of the season.

There is no regression to the mean.

The next four weeks through the playoffs have to regress at some point or the Saints will be in real trouble.

While we are in the playoffs I hope they show that "no call PI" over and over.

Payton's Saints will never see another SB appearance while Goodell is Comish.
