Saints vs Bucs - two 40 year old master QBs.
Ravens vs Bills- two QBs that were drafted in 2018.
Chefs vs Browns - two QBs drafted in 2017 & 2018
* these two played each other in 2016 - totaled almost 1,300 yard passing & 12 TDs

The youngsters are just getting started. They have changed the game & the position.

The old timers have written their pages in the record books; thanks for the memories.

True.

It was strange there for a good 5-7 years where the now older guys were exiting their prime and/or retiring and the NFL couldnt find new franchise QBs.

The game has changed.

Brees, Brady, Rodgers are the only playoff QB’s left over 26 years old.
Goff
Allen, Mahomes, Mayfield, and Jackson are all babies.

Yes the position has changed, but unless the young guys change the way they play you will never see a QB play into there 40s ever again. Not saying its a bad thing, but instead of having a franchise QB for 15 years Id say the max would be 10 unless style of play changes

that always happens, the greats of the 70s either retired (Tarkenton, Staubach, Griese) Stabler was traded for Dan Pastorini who got benched for a bust of a former #1 pick) or fell off (Bradshaw). Montana came along in 81 but wasn't really until the 83 class, Marino, Elway and eventually Kelly that the next generation took off.

Same thing in the 90s when those guys started to get old, outside of Favre there was clear next gen QB class until Manning and Brady, then Roethlisberber, Brees, Rodgers in the mid to late 00's.

The change in rules has done more to help these young QB's than anything else
Who knows what Brees career would have turned out had he stayed in San Diego or even in Miami Saban was not going to run a Sean Payton offense
It was a perfect match for Brees

Brady probably would have worked out under any circumstance you put him in but him taking discounts with the Pats allowed them to work the cap to their advantage. He would not have been able to do that elsewhere.

Still think this is why we need to send the farm to Houston for Watson. Our roster is already deeper than any in the league. Now we just need the QB for the next 10 years.

If Watson truly becomes available, you can't fault the organization for going for an all in move like that to reset the organization's clock another 10+ years.

PM is seriously prone to injury like the other running quarterbacks. Not as much, though, it would seem as he can escape and has better instincts and athletic ability.

I can agree that the younger, more spread option style of play can lead to more injury and shorter careers. If you are going to have that style of offense, and have a really good qb to run it, I think a team then needs to invest in another good qb of the same style to back the first one up.

Every year young kids post “it’s a new era of athletic qbs, they’re changing the game yada yada yada”. They aren’t changing the game at all. The rules of the game have changed significantly but that’s about it. Although most of these young qbs are a bit more athletic and mobile doesn’t mean they have changed the game. The qb game is still won inside the pocket with accuracy and decision making. Qbs who fail to learn how to read defenses, manipulate coverages, and make accurate throws don’t survive.
