I was driving from Boerne to Victoria and listened to the entire first half.

His calls of the first two TDs were terrible.

The first TD was like, “Brees throws to the end zone...”

10 seconds go by...

“...Touchdown!”

The second TD he gave credit to Hill even though it was Traubman (sp?).

I like Deuce though.

And the ball almost pushed Smith out of the back, he probably wanted to make sure he had the toe drag.

I don’t mind Strief. At least he’s describing what’s going on, unlike Chris Blair

Hill and Trautman is very understandable mistake. Since Trautman hasn’t had a lot of production yet you are expecting it to be Hill when it is a white tight end. Come on now give the guy a break. He does a really good job of describing what is going on.

I thought by now Strief would have gotten better at his job. He hasn't, and listening to other team's highlights and their announcers, its kind of embarrassing. He and Deuce sound like 2 dads volunteering to do junior varsity football radio. Keep one of them MAYBE as a color or sideline analyst, but for God's sake, they need to hire an actual professional.

Honestly the first TD call is completely understandable. Brees hung it up way in the air.

Confusing two big white tight ends doesn’t really bother me either. I don’t think a lot of us were expecting trautman there.

Strief obviously isn't Jim Henderson but he's not horrible for being relatively new to broadcasting. I also actually kind of like Deuce's snarky comments

he's not terrible at his job but anytime I do have to tune in for a bit, it feels more like a broadcast of a HS game and not a professional football team

The biggest issue with Strief is the timbre of his voice.
Please allow me to explain. A male baritone voice
i.e. Bing Crosby - Frank Sinatra very easy to listen to this type of voice long term. Al Michaels has this type of voice.
Bass voice Barry White - The Westwood One Announcer Deep booming voice pleasing to the ear but for me, not long term.
Zach Strief has a voice that falls somewhere in between an alto and a tenor. Sometimes hard to tolerate particularly when they get excited. Strief should get help with voice training if he is planning on a long term career. Surely Jim Henderson didn't come out of High School speaking the way he does as a broadcaster.

This and he's also gotta wait for the ref's TD signal.

If Sean Kelley interviewed for the job and was turned down, that is a travesty. Kelley does national college and NFL games on national radio. The guy is a legit professional.

These boards like to bash Blair as not having enough emotion, that's he too bland and too much like a professional.

Strief is about as homer as you can get, and these boards bash him as not professional enough.

Someone last night posted on Saints Talk, what was everyone going to be upset about now? Announcing. That's what it will be.

Honestly, Kelley is too good to be doing just Saints games, and I don't know if he could have done the games and also done a national schedule.

Maybe he is?

One thing I like about Strief/Blair compared to Henderson/"Jack Hunt" is that they are a lot more accessible outside gameday. They both are on social media. They do interviews during the week. Strief does the Friday show on WWL.

Henderson and Hawthorne were good, but very old school. Change is good.

I’m not saying fire the guy, I just hope he works to get better.

I don’t dislike him.

If anything, I’m happy the Saints even have a radio network. Some professional teams are doing away with terrestrial radio completely and doing everything on an online basis (Vince McMahon voice).

It’s getting to the point where it’s embarrassing. 870 must be broke to hire such a inexperienced person to broadcast NFL games. They are losing listeners.

They need a news guy to do the play by play, Jim Henderson was great. But 2 former players together is a recipe for terrible, well, not all the time, but in this case, yeah. Lol They should put Fletcher Mackel or Juan Kincaid, somebody like that in the booth with Deuce.

The TV commentators messed up the Hill/Trautman call too. I don't blame them. He looks similar, and has played sparingly.
