I'm not sure how to do this but why not put out a petition for the Owner's to act on Goodell's incompetence and lack of leadership over this mess and many other messes he has made during his tenure?

It could very well happen as a result of all this. The NFL is scared shitless right now of the threat of having to answer questions under oath.

That's why there has been no statement. NFL is essentially saying they invoke their right to remain silent and want an attorney. In other words, they know that this has the potential to blow up in their faces and don't want to further incriminate themselves by commenting and saying something that can be used against them in court.

If they weren't very afraid, we'd have gotten at least an empty apology and an "oops, we fricked up... sorry, lol" by now.

The fact that they haven't even done that speaks volumes about how the NFL views this scandal in terms of being a threat to its monopoly and lack of regulation and oversight.

I have a feeling the NFL hasn’t said anything because they suspect the refs may have been shaving points. NFLs worst nightmare.

I think it’s just because they’re arrogant assholes and really don’t give a shite.

That's another possibility.

I see it as less likely than a mandate from Goodell but until the investigation is complete (assuming eventually there is one), it certainly can't be ruled out.

The silence absolutely screams that something illegal transpired and now the league is in CYA mode.

It may be just a game to some but it's way bigger than that. I hope this doesn't blow over. I want that fricker to burn.

The fact that they have said nothing is definitely a sign. The NFL is making sure Ts are crossed and Is are dotted before they say anything. Even though they know it's making it worse by not saying anything. It will be the hot topic all of SB week. Rather say nothing than the wrong thing.

Saints players and fans lost $25 million on bonuses and paid admission to a rigged game alone. That's not even factoring in any other costs and doesn't include bettors.

It isn't just a game. It's a big money enterprise, and the league has had an illegal monopoly for 40 years and is now scripting outcomes for TV ratings.

I see no reason why this scandal shouldn't be investigated as a criminal matter.

I don't even give a shite if the refs face consequences. I do want to see Goodell or whoever gave them their marching orders put in prison.

Exactly. Well said.

This is why I am holding out hope that there is in fact a criminal investigation. If the league is afraid, the prospect of it happening probably isn't nearly as farfetched as it seems to be to disillusioned fans in Louisiana.

Easiest, simplest, most obvious and most believable explanation is one or two of these refs were shaving points. As much as I’d love to see Goodell calling a hit on the Saints that solution involved way to many people to ever keep it quiet.
There is no way this crew missed that call. They all saw it. They are trained to look for minute details. They intentionally didn’t make the call.

Payton has been advocating that penalties like these be reviewable for years. But Goodell hand picks the competition committee and he has been stacking it with old school idealists who have been ignoring the pleas of coaches like payton and belichick. It was only a matter of time before the coaches were proved right, and unfortunately it just happened in the worst possible way.

So even if there’s no funny business here, Goodell still deserves plenty of blame for refusing to adapt to the times. I have no problem with him losing his job over this fiasco.

Start the petition, I’ll sign it.

This from the Wikipedia page on point shaving:

American footballEdit

American football is also subject to point shaving. When a scandal occurs in this sport, it often involves the quarterback throwing "bad passes" and even interceptions, and also usually involves the referees calling plays incorrectly.

Point shaving has been going on since sports have been the object of wagering.
Nothing new. Old story. Things haven’t changed.
This is obviously what has the NFL in full blown coverup mode. Point shaving changing the outcome of the NFC game is the NFLs worst nightmare. Total loss of credibility.
The NFL bubble burst on a world stage. It not like shaving the Browns/ raiders game.
