I always sign the top free agents and then trade them for 1st round picks before the draft.

The problem isn't the player, it's the contract. He has to be a premier safety to even approach the value of that contract, and right now he's still knocking the rust off and is just not that guy. Even if he was playing out of his mind, there are only so many teams that a) have the space, b) value a talent like that at safety, and c) have a need.
