Bub Means was Mel Kiper's "favorite" WR in this draft class

Every April, as the NFL draft gets closer and I lock in my final Big Board rankings, I like to pick my favorite prospects at every position for the class. It has become a tradition, highlighting players I like more than the consensus, regardless of where they get drafted and where I have them ranked at their position.
What follows below is not a list of the best overall prospects in the 2024 class nor is it a list of the guys I consider the best at each position. I try not to take the obvious prospects; only one player is in my top 25 rankings. These are the prospects I've:
Often rated higher than other evaluators within the draft media or higher than team evaluators with whom I discuss prospects or ...
Ranked higher in close debates within position groups or ...
Watched and rewatched on tape, just because I like the way they play.

Wide receiver: Bub Means, Pitt
Means had an interesting college career, as he played cornerback at Tennessee then transferred to Louisiana Tech, where he averaged 19.5 yards on 22 catches in 2021. He finished his career at Pitt, catching 68 passes for 1,122 yards and eight touchdowns over the past two seasons.
At 6-foot-1 and 212 pounds, Means has an intriguing blend of size, strength and speed. He ran a 4.43-second 40-yard dash at the combine and had a 39.5-inch vertical leap. He put up solid numbers even with some rough quarterback play. And he has huge hands and long arms. There's a lot to like here for wide receiver coaches.
Projection: Means is likely to be drafted in Round 3, though he might need a little bit of development time before he reaches his potential.

Could he be our 'burner' at WR? 4.4 time for 40, right?
Maybe a larger version of Brandin Cooks? Could really need someone to get separation to where Carr doesn't have to throw absolute dimes to get a completion.

Olave can be if he stops the stupid drops. He's already clearly our best WR as it is.

Shaheed, Olave, and newcomer Wilson are burners. We're not lacking speed.

There is only one 'Bub'

The fact that Mel Kiper likes him concerns me.

I’m in no way comparing him to AJ Brown, but that is who his closest comp is in the database based off size and athletic testing

Bub is a better yac man that Olave

Bubs has 25 and 32 lbs on Olave and Shaheed, respectively

What's the deal with this Yale dude, Mason Tipton? Underhill says he ran a 4.33 at his pro day. Did they mis-time that? Cuz if not, that's a very intriguing time. And he led the team with 53 catches for 800 yds; and they only threw for just about 1900 yds total. Seems like he was the only target on the team.
I see they had a lineman picked in the 3rd rd, someone must have seen something in the films.

He is raw. His route running is sloppy and has trouble beating press. Game speed doesn’t match 40 time. Likely a slot guy.

I still have a lot of questions about our receiving options
Olave, Shaheed, Perry, Means, Wilson
Johnson, Moreau, Hill
Kamara, Miller
This is going to come down to coaching, scheme, and execution
We don't have an X factor on offense but we have talent that given protection, reads, and execution that can win a particular given matchup on almost any snap
One of Carmichaels biggest flaws was personnel and formations
If we can get decent OL play...Ram we could use you a lot but assuming you can't play
The season will hinge on LT, LG
Penning, Saldervadi, someone available via trade, or FA or whatever other options there are we need competent and consistent OL play
If we get that we can compete for the division but I still have my reservations about this HC being able to do anything once there...but after this break from the playoffs since Drew retired...I don't care if we are one and done anymore

We will have a new offense for the first time in almost 20 years. Nobody talks about it much.

Yes that’s my biggest hope it should make everyone better on offense and give the defense more time to rest.

Pete Prisco likes Bub Means, too

Best Pick: Fifth-round receiver Bub Means is a long receiver who can run. With a little polish in terms of his route running, Means can become a nice addition to their offense when it comes to the deep ball.

Sounds like a Devery
People tend to underrate Devery Henderson because of how good Michael Clayton was at LSU. Henderson was a no-doubter deep threat, but I remember watching the Senior Bowl, where he was matched up (again) with the Oklahoma cornerback, who was an All American. Googling, I think it was Derrick Strait.
Strait just could not handle Devery in man coverage. I don't know if he was terrified of being burnt, but Devery caught a bunch of shorter (10 yd) routes on him. I remember that because it was a chance to see players from that team one more time, and thinking at the time "wow, so their unanimous All American can't handle our #2 WR".
I do recall the announcer remarking Strait just couldn't match up with Henderson, after about the 3rd pass to him.

Olave will never be a Yac guy. Hes too scared, and drops to the ground
