Who was the worse QB on the field in our playoff game?

Hint: It wasn't Cousins.

Was Cousins pressured on 40% of his drop backs?

Andrus Peat and our timeout usage was even worse. Andrus Peat played as poor a game as I’ve ever seen an interior offensive lineman play.

The entire line was. Even Ryan Ramczyk gave up a few pressures during that game.

Cousins wasn't that much better and his O line did a much better job than Brees'. So your hurt feelings make you want to dump an elite QB for a one game sample size? Sounds like you'd be a great GM.

Care to elaborate? I'm having a hard time figuring out how any team keeping a top 5 QB on their roster makes them worse.

Never said it made them worse.

But, Brees coming back doesn't mean super bowl for this franchise. That window closed 2-3 years ago.

I'm ready for the team to move on from him and figure out life post Brees.

We were one of the best teams in the league last year and unfortunately had a bad game at the wrong time. We took the NFC champ down to the wire in the regular season. We could wind up with a better roster this coming season than last depending on free agency and the draft. Superbowls are incredibly hard to win and Drew coming back is the only chance the team has at one next season. To throw that away when Drew says he wants to come back would be asinine. We can move past Brees when Brees is ready to hang up the cleats.

Meh, Brees couldn't handle the Minny defense to save his life, then fumbled the game away. It's the first time I can recall, that it was actually his fault for losing in the playoffs and not his defense' fault.

Yet no bye in the playoffs and lost to Kirk Cousins.

Brees is just coming back for a farewell tour.

He was all smiles after the loss against Minny. Not the reaction I want from our leader after he just blew the game with a fumble.

The sooner we can move on, the better in my opinion.

Fair enough, but you're just wasting seasons of our other talent just because Brees doesn't feel like retiring.

Saints aren't winning another SB with Brees. Window is closed.

?? winning 13 games is still winning 13 games. Just because it was a fluke year doesn’t mean we weren’t a contender

Sound proof logic

^^This Yes, being good in the regular season is awesome but it doesn't mean shite once playoffs start. I love Brees and even at age 40 I have him ranked at about 6th best QB in the league right now based off his accuracy and TD/INT ratio that he has maintained the last few years. However we do not have the defense to win big in the playoffs with the current version of Brees, because even though I have him ranked 6th he still is not what he once was. He cannot move in the pocket and extend plays as well as he used to and he cannot challenge defenses deep and keep them scattered like he used to.

The last 3 seasons in the playoffs, 5 games total with a 2-3 record, he has averaged only 250 yards a game and has 8TD/5INT (threw an INT in EACH PLAYOFF GAME) which is a stark contrast from 270 yards and the 82TD/17INT ratio he compiled during the regular season over the past 3 years. His regular season rating avg over the last 3 regular seasons is 111.9 vs his playoff avg in that time of 93.5. The point is playoff defenses and defensive coordinators are simply better and learned how to contain him.

There are only a few QBs in the league that could have been our QB with our same team this year and possibly won the SB. More than Drew's physical capabilities at the age 40 what's hurting us is the money spent when we still need pieces around him to make him as good or near as good as he once was.

Top needs for us to have legit shot at SB, regardless of QB (but not having $40+M tied up in Drew gives us more flexibility):
WR2: Been missing this for 2 years now, shame on Payton
CB2: Perhaps Jenkins is that guy
LB: Davis is a stud, but we need another force at LB
DE: Davenport/Hendrickson have their moments but we need more consistent pass rush from the DE opposite Jordan

Might not win another one with Payton as the HC either.

So if you take out the overtime BS against the Rams, he has a 2:1 TD/Int ratio and a much higher passer rating. Not to mention the Panthers int was on a 4th down where he intentionally threw it up since a sack is a turnover. It may have won us the game. So a smart play on his part and the Rams no call

Defenses aren’t doing anything special. They learned how to contain him by generating front 4 and interior pressure and Peat being absolutely awful. It’s the same way you shut down any offense

And even with that, he shredded the Vikings D with a perfect 2nd half 3 seasons ago in one of those losses, and he had a dropped TD on an absolutely perfect pass and then the bs at the end of the Rams game.

He’s played us to 4-1 during the past 3 years. It took 2 absolutely pathetic endings to rob him of it. That’s 2 more 4th quarter playoff comebacks he should have

Edit: your stats are wrong. He’s averaging 286 ypg in the playoffs the past 3 seasons with 10 tds to 6 ints and a 97 passer rating. He’s gone over 250 yards in 2 of the 5 games. The Vikings and the Rams (249). He went for 376, 294, and 301 in the other 3 games.

Assuming you're right, I'm not sure where I miscalculated but I had looked them up myself so who knows

I love Drew, but the problem with what you're doing is you're taking this & that out to make your argument for you by looking at it subjectively as opposed to objectively. Too many "ifs, should haves, and withouts" in your post.

The fact is we have failed to make it to the SB since the 2009 season. Fact is you never have all the calls go your way in a game. Fact is Drew is out of his prime. Fact is our offense cannot pass down field like we used. Fact is we do not have an elite team with no holes. Fact is we'll have over $40M tied up in a will be 41yr old QB on said team with holes that has failed to make it to the SB since 2009. Nothing would make me happier than to see Drew raise the Lombardi trophy in the black & gold again, but I honestly cannot see it happening. If we were trotting out the Broncos D that carried Peyton Manning to a SB, then I'd be all for keeping Drew, but we don't
