Mariotta, depending on salary, would be the perfect QB to get in this situation. He should be competent enough to be QB2 behind Drew so Taysom can still get his snaps at other positions, and beyond next season if Taysom ends up being the starter Mariotta could back him up and the offense not have to change much because he and Hill have similar abilities

All fans regardless if we have a winning record or not just enjoy this upcoming season. This might be it for no.9 so I will definitely cherish this upcoming season.

This decision seems selfish. Brees has had 3 years to make this team a champion and he's fallen short when it matters most.

The Dolphins held on to Marino for far to long and they have never recovered. We are inching towards that direction.

However, I'm a Saints fan so I guess we will settle the records...

I don’t disagree, but how much money can we feasibly spend on 3 QBs with the other needs we have to fill?

Hill is going to be a low key help to our cap situation

Team puts a 1st round tender on Hill

If a team signs him - first round pick, hopefully contributor, on a rookie deal

If no one signs him - swiss army knife, increase snaps across positions on offense, backup QB for ~$6 mil

Let’s see how stupid the front office was with re-signing him. Not that signing him is stupid, but let’s see how much of the future they mortgaged to fail in the playoffs again.

Can’t see Taysom being #2 if we still want to use hmm as a weapon x type player. Most likely we sign a veteran very cheap to be #2 so Taysom can run wild.

If that's your view point, what is 1 more year? Plus, if Hill is the true future (as SP's comments would make you believe), then another year under Brees would only help him. Plus, he won't command the same contract as the established FA QBs, so they could toy with the idea of Hill for another 1-2 years after Brees. That would allow us to know if he's truly the future, AND remove the cap burden Brees will have us under at least through 2021.

Slap a 2nd rounder on Hill and see if someone bites.

Anyone who thinks he will be a good starting QB in this league is a complete sucker

Best record in the league the last 3 years

Imagine being in any profession and ignoring a large sample of data in favor of a small sliver of data

That's not even considering we shouldve been in the NFCCG in 17 and in the SB in 18. fricking moron

So I’m going full conspiracy theory here.

Drew comes back one final year to make a run at a championship. NFL finally gives the Saints the Brady/Manning treatment and we somehow manage to have everything go our way so Drew can hoist the trophy and announce his retirement on the podium after the Super Bowl.
