No doubt Bree's is still by far and away out best option. But he's not what he was by a long shot. His ego is bigger than the team and his selfish play shows. He's hurt but he plays anyway, 5 and 10 yard pass aren't good enough for him, it's a home run ball or nothing. That's one reason he takes so many sacks not his o line, he holds he ball waiting for guys 30 yards down field to get open instead of taking the underneath stuff. He's a big stats guy as well, I think sometimes he more worried about his stats than his team. Ego,Ego,Ego. Hate to say it but his time has passed, at least for the saints and it's time to move on.

The velocity of the passes were very suspect> Shoulder is probably still not right. This season is a wash so like the late great Buddy D would say, "wait till next year" lol.

Hey, but at least he and Payton padded his stats on the last play.

I would compare Brees now to where Brett Favre was his last season with the Packers. Brees has something to offer another team that is a contender, for a season or two, like Favre did with the Vikings...but unlike the Packers back then, the Saints don't have an Aaron Rogers or much of anything else waiting in the wings.

The sad thing is that they can pass block.

They give him about 3 seconds every play. Payton calls plays that send all of our recievers 20 yards down field, no underneath routers, and no check downs.

If someone isn't wide open down field Brees has no options.

Couple that with our refusal to establish a run game and the defense has it easy. They can blitz linebackers because we have no underneath routes and if they drop the linebackers into coverage, Brees is just fricked until a dlineman gets to him.

frick Sean Payton. Time for a change.

Brees hasn't been elite since he got paid. Got his money and then took a seat back.

McCown looks like the better option right now.

Brees does seem to be a stat whore in my opinion.

Everyone is getting so upset. Why is this season such a shock to everybody? The writing was on the wall.

dude is throwing to terrible WRs with a terrible OL.

Not saying he hasn't had his bad moments but our WR's and OL are epically bad

I agree. He hasn't been incredible but we have other serious issues with this team.

Watching the Eagles almost reminded me of watching the Saints from 2009. Of course this current Saints team made the Eagles look that way.

He has no receivers that can get open. They did not replace Graham with anyone eho can be a threat of any sort. Cannot run because their passing game is diminished. Defense has no pass rush, so pass coverage is weak. Its a lot more than Brees. This is just a bad team.

So was I right when I posted this in a thread where someone said the Brees money would have been spent better elsewhere?

From this non-fan's perspective, this is how it seems to me. I would be shocked if 3 years from now anyone thinks it was worth it.

Bress is no longer elite, but he's not washed up. This thread does not accomplish anything. He's doing just as good with the weapons he has as 90% of the other QBs would if they were under center for this team.

Not too long ago the concensus on this board was that having Brees would make our receivers good, that guys like Jimmy Graham were a luxury.

Welp
