many of you are more concerned with which side of politics you identify with than being a decent human being and it's rather sad honestly

He should have stood his ground and retired.

Couple of things to consider on "Why he needed to kneel, cry and humiliate himself":

1) death threats: they were getting them

2) that NBC sports-caster gig was in peril before he even started it.

As such, if he didn't recant in tears, his playing days end in heated controversy and he retires from play seen by many as a villain. Additionally, he's completely out of football, even as a sportscaster, because NBC doesn't want its Rookie Sportscaster to be seen by many as a Racist Villain who would suck all of the attention from the game he's covering because mass media would focus on "Why does NBC have a Racist working for them?"

And the death threats: he's got a wife and lots of kids. Death threats are scary for a rich guy like that.

That's why he had to recant and humiliate himself.

PS You may think that the USA is now the same place that it was when you were born, but, let me assure you, it is definitely NOT. Drew Brees took a drink from the Fountain of Reality and realized this QUICK.

Have you ever caused pain to anyone? For some of you, it may have been a wonderful experience.... but for most people, and Drew Brees... it is something that we must try to fix... there's nobody in the world that works harder to learn from their failures than Drew Brees... if you don't believe this, you need to pull you're head out...

No, but I also can't imagine being so weak minded that I would have to put out a video of myself crying about a teammate having an opinion that differs from mine. His so called "teammates" tried to destroy and impugn his character because he dared to have an opinion that they disaproved of. We are on very dangerous ground as a nation if we are going to destroy a person's legacy just to force them to abandon their principles. Brees had an opportunity to stand up for free speech, but he abandoned his principles to save face with the very same people who abandoned him when he needed their support most. They didn't have to agree with what he said, they only needed to a agree that he had the right to say it.

Not to mention fellow colleagues around the league like that thug Ed Reed. The level of vitriol they threw it drew Brees was....wait for it ......fricking racism

To win a ducking Super Bowl I hope. I will personally fund a whole week of BLM events if we can do that.

Easy to say when you weren’t risking your legacy and an easy $10 mill per year for working 20 hour weeks half the year to be a color analyst

Either way, I've lost respect for him and the league. Damage has been done. Glad I get Sundays back to play golf and hang with friends and fam.

I believe Drew is a good guy.

That being said, he never misses an opportunity to be in front of the camera, and it seems like every time he makes a donation it is national news (announcing 5mm donation on national TV himself).

If you love the spotlight that much, there is no room for mistakes. There's nothing wrong with loving being rich and famous, but any crack in that dam will cause a flood.

Aside from his support of the black community, I would be shocked if the Brees fam doesn't take a step back from the spotlight

Look at the big picture, the guy is in his 40s, has a lot of life left.

He will continue to make much more money, has businesses, and can give to charities.

I wish his response was a little different, but bigger things in front of him. He also has kids.

I’m more angry at teammates initial responses.

I'm pretty sure he "folded" because he knew he was wrong.
