I understand your point, but you need to reconsider how you attempted to make it.
Very weak.

Please elaborate on how my point is weak

We trade up in the first round to draft a RB and we have a pass happy offense

Seems like an odd use of the talent in the backfield

no shite..they should have used that pick on a LB or an OL...

What a wasted pick at this point IMO...I hope I'm wrong though

it won't totally sink in until the draft next year. then I'm sure I'll be a lot more pissed off.

still pretty early to call it a wasted pick. I am not pleased at all with the run game tho. Hope ivory can come back healthy and at least give us a spark and the oline will start getting some gd push

I get the point. Seems like Atlanta and NO should've swapped their selections of Julio and Ingram. I say this based solely on the point of the 2 players fitting in to the scheme better at opposite teams.

Clearly Atlanta is a run first team vs. Saints being more pass oriented.

The O is that pass happy because the O line can't get a push to run worth a damn and we rely on Brees' arm a little too much. You can't do much without a push from the line and no holes opening.

Everyone's hailing Ivory and some think his return will insure success in the running game.. I laugh at those people. He may help, but as long as our O line continues to suck it up, no RB is going to get yards consistently.

A few people here said they could have just waited until the 3rd round and gotten someone like Ridley. Of course that was all scoffed at.

Trading up for a RB in the first round is stupid. Unless it's someone like Peterson.

exactly. It isn't our rb's fault that they have someone in their face as soon as they have the ball

Right. It's not like there isn't adequate talent in the backfield.

You have Ingraham, Thomas, and Sproles. All of them are capable of generating yards if you get the defense blocked up front.

saints drafted ingram because:

the fact that we went thru about 7 rbs last year
pierre thomas, although good, gets knicked alot
they knew bush would no longer be on the team
they didnt know sproles would be on the team
chris ivory is made of glass

The Saints have been playing catch up a lot...hard to come back and win getting -2 yards at a time.

we throw the ball so much because no one can stop it, not because we can't run.

I honestly thought we should have just went to a spread out no huddle in the second half like the Houston game.

Here's some crazy logic: A decent run game opens up the play action and passing game. Because you make them respect the plays at the line of scrimmage, you force them to commit more men to the run, and you have a better match up in the passing game with one of the best passers in the league. All of this seems like common sense, but apparently it needs to be explained. A back who has even the slightest bit of intimidation on the other team is a huge advantage.

For the Super Bowl run, we had some nice ball movement when it needed to come from Mike Bell, Pierre, and Reggie. Not to say they were a scary tandem, but they got yards where they were needed. Last year, on the other hand, the run game was seemingly atrocious, and the Saints weren't as dominant. While it isn't working as well yet, Ingram WILL pan out as one of the better backs in the league. He runs hard and shows flashes of his talent. I think we made a phenomenal decision.

Except defenses that sit on the pass because you have no run game and they do a good job confusing Brees. I can't stand this Madden shite the Saints run. We went to a Superbowl because we had a balanced offense. It doesn't take a genius to know, a consistent run game would open our pass attack up even more. If a defense has to worry about the run game and Drew's pass attack, that is just a extra dimension. They can't sit on the pass the majority of the game.

We have NO respect for the run game. At all. Until we get that, defenses are going to just do what Tampa did yesterday. The problem is will they have personnel? Not all teams will, Saints will still throw all over them. But come playoffs, they'll be in trouble.

Here is the problem:

2009;54:46 2011: 63:36

this is the pass to play ratio from the year we won the bowl compared to this year...

This. Brees would be devouring defenses with 4 TD games with a consistent run game. What has Brees thrown, 6 INTs the past 3 games? Does anybody but me remember this same theme last year and Brees started pressing? Why do you think they went out and got a damn RB? I'll be damned if they give Nicks a $60 million contract because he hasn't earned it. And Kreutz is fricking horrible.

Saints need to cut some fat on their team, especially some meaty contracts. Harper, Ellis and Smith are way overpaid. That is cap space that at least can allow us to make some vital FA moves...
