This guy has never played in a real NFL game.
He's only played in some of two preseason games.

There is always a learning curve.

Most snaps of any receiver, 3 targets, and 0 catches. Meanwhile a guy like Joe Morgan many are writing off has 5 catches on 7 targets.

And Coleman also played preseason last year so it isn't just a few snaps in two games. He needs to show something in actual games and not just practice if he wants to make the team.

I'm hoping Morgan makes the team. He's willing to sacrifice his body to make a catch...it's called desire to succeed; that's something this team, as a whole, as been lacking since 2009.

Yeah, they need to keep Joe Morgan. He stretches the field unlike anyone else on the team. He doesn't need many touches to change the game, and his deep speed requires extra attention. If he is staying out of trouble now, you have to keep him.

By all accounts Joe has been a model citizen and a very hard worker thus far. Payton said he took it upon himself to get the help he needed last year after being cut.

Brees singled Joe out for being a tireless worker and someone who is trying to improve himself and do all the right things.

I think most people wrote off Joe after he was cut last year but he has turned his life around and is doing everything he can to earn a spot.

And let's not forget that he has been a standout blocker on the edge in the run game. That is something Payton really wants out of his receivers (and why Meachem hung around for two years).

Plus a deep threat who is also a standout blocker is the perfect play action receiver (and how we used Meachem the SB year).

Back on Coleman I was curious to see how he did last year in preseason. He had 8 targets, 5 catches, and 50 yards (10 ypc). Not bad but that still isn't enough to earn a roster spot. He is behind that pace thus far.

He'll have a better than season than Colston. BOOK IT

This is getting old

I think Coleman will develop, but he's not there yet. He's shown he'll put the work in.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Coleman has a 600+ yard 5+ touchdown season. If I'm wrong then that's fine but I think there's a reason we didn't go wr in the draft and I think SP's confidence in Coleman is a big factor int that. He will show up when it comes down to it IMO. I'm also an optimist so tifwiw

Colston is washed up, like I stated before the Saints wouldn't have brought him back just like they did with Pierre, but with the lack of talent at the WR position they were forced to bring him in especially for a leadership standpoint.

So how does 'washed up" translate stats wise in your view?

Probably plays 8-9 games and about 600 yards as his ceiling

Because who else do we have?Snead has done well in practice but the only gameplay he has has been in the 4th quarter.

Exactly why I want to see him against the Texans' starting DBs. But lets be honest here, that's not much better than the Patriots/Ravens' 3rd string.

Texans ain't playing their starters.

Also at Colston being done. And what nagging injury is going to make him miss half the season? Not saying he won't get a freak injury like could happen to any player but you are talking crazy. Guy is going to go from 900 yards to what?

Also 600 yards is far from being done. So even IF he only got to 600 you'd still be wrong.

I think the reality is that we have a NEED for a younger flank receiver. Colston is great, but he only has so much gas left in the tank + we need another end zone deep threat. So while Snead and Cooks would be comparable physically, Coleman is a guy who can push Colston. Seems like his age (and thus potential) is what sets him apart from the Morgans.

Colston has been "nicked" in each of the last few seasons. To his credit he hasn't missed a bunch of games but I'd consider him being slowed by injury as almost a given at this point.

And yet despite being slowed by injury he still put up 900+ yards the last two years. So this year will be different why?

I didn't say anything about yards but if his production hit a wall I wouldn't be stunned.

Colston haters abundant. We'll see another ho hum 900+ yard season from him.

Wouldn't be shocked if he had a bigger year with Graham and Stills' departure.

I don't intend to get in the middle of the Coleman/No Coleman debate, but dumping on Colston isn't working for me.

The "nagging injuries" Colston has been dealing with the last few seasons are a direct result of the fact he's the guy taking on the most physical DBs. I can't imagine any of the other WRs fairing any better under the same circumstances.

As was mention in here already, if we only have him for 8 games and we get 600 yards of production from him, those will be some of the toughest yards on the field and still worthy of recognition.
