Even though this ruling has nothing to do with the coaches, if Goodell can't prove that there was intent to injure, then what would be the grounds that the coaches are suspended on?
1) He's their boss and if they want to work in the NFL over the next 3 decades they'll play ball. They have a lot more to lose than Vilma by challenging Goodell.
2) This ruling confirmed that there was both an illegal payment program in place and an intent to injure program, they only said Goodell had to reconsider the penalties, not that the players were innocent. From the OP:
quote:
Gabe Feldman ?@SportsLawGuy Panel finds that bounty conduct both constituted payment in violation of CBA and payment with intent to injure other players.
3) Even if there wasn't an intent to injure, and Williams' speech before the 49ers game pointing out opposing player injuries suggests there was at least one coach encouraging injuries, the Saints still violated the CBA with extra payments to players after they allegedly were warned to stop.
The penalty doesn't fit the crime, it should be more like Spygate, but that still doesn't make this a matter for the courts to decide. What law was broken here? Vilma didn't sue Goodell for being unfair, he sued Goodell for defamation because that's the only legal avenue open to him.

quote:alright i'm getting confused. on espn they were talking about that they couldn't prove there was an intent to injure that's why it was overturned.
