Bridgewater left Miami with no contract, which is good. If he does sign elsewhere (be it there or another team), would Bortles be a good fit here as a backup?

I am on the fence with this one. He is a bid dude that can work the pocket and take some hits, and he can sling the ball. The problem is he is wildy inconsistent. How much of that is him or the shitty team he has been on?

I think with Payton and this team around him Bortles would be a good fit if Brees were to ever go down. He would also serve as a good stopgap between Brees after retirement and whoever we eventually draft/sign as the future. He has shown that he can play very well, so with some consistency and structure I think he could be a good player here.

I would. He's not going to command a lot of money I wouldn't think, and he's got a lot of starting experience for a backup.

Bortles looked legit two years ago...not sure what happened last year. He has the talent, but at this point, he is just a guy.

Nope. He will be a vet minimum signing or close to it at least. He does have a ton of potential, much more so than Tannehill (who is rumored to maybe be a target for us if Bridge signs in Miami), and I think it's worth a shot if he does sign that cheap. I do worry about his inconsistency though. For a backup that may not be too much of a concern. There's a reason these guys are backups to begin with. At least with this one you have the possibility he finds his potential and maximizes it.

Yes as a backup but need a long term answer still.

I think Sean really believes Teddy is the answer.

Yes we want Bridge to sign here. The issue is what to do if he doesn't, and the best option out there appears to be Bortles. Tannehill may be more reliable, but Bortles offers much more upside.

We aren't finding a long term answer at this point outside of the draft or some blockbuster trade. It's either Bridge for the long term, Bortles for the short term and MAYBE long term or someone else strictly as a break glass in case of emergency in 2019

If Bortles I'd jump off a bridge.

This offense needs accurate passing. Bortles is not that imo

Ya you can’t teach accuracy. Talk to his ex QB coach Frankie Scelfo, he will tell you Bortles ain’t it

I think it's worth kicking the tires on and believe the team would be foolish to not at least bring him in for a meeting.

If they do go the Bortles route, I would imagine we would have a way to get out in 2-3 years if he's not the guy.

Not at all. He had all the help he needed on defense to help him out in JAX. He put them in bad situations with costly interceptions and decisions. He did really well at UCF, but it doesn't always translate into the NFL. Let someone else work on that project.

Pass on Bortles, first choice would be Sam Bradford, only qb to be Brees comp % record. He's still relatively young and we are not counting on him to start like every team he's been on before. He will still be early 30's when Brees retires and shouldn't cost much because he's not getting a starting gig.

I'd rather AJ McCarron so we can see his hot arse wife every home game.
