Just embrace the tank and clear the books like the Texans did this season.

We can't do that like they did. We can't "clear the books" in 1 offseason without destroying the next. This is a 3-4 year cap rebuild once we tear it down.

Why the hell not? Bears had $93M in dead cap for 2022 but are $115M under the cap for 2023. Falcons also had a shite ton of dead cap for 2022 and are $56M under the cap for 2023.

The numbers, specifically the remaining pro-ration for contracts we re-did previously to clear short-term cap space.

We could get to the $93M in dead cap but not save enough to get under the cap.

All Pre-June 1 cuts (to not affect 2024, as I stated)

Cutting Cam would save $2.2M ($23.5M dead cap)
Cutting Peat would save $1.4M ($16.9M dead cap)
Cutting Kamara would save $0.6M ($15.4M dead cap)
Cutting Winston would save $4.4M ($11.2M dead cap)
Cutting Demarco would save $0.2M ($13.1M dead cap)

Onyematta already has a $10.2M dead cap if we simply do nothing
Davenport already has a $7.6M dead cap if we simply do nothing

That gets us to a dead cap of $97.9M. We only shed $8.8M off the cap

Cutting Mathieu would cost us $5.7M
Cutting Maye would cost us $3.5M
Cutting Taysom would cost us $9.9M
Cutting Lattimore would cost us $20.5M
Cutting Ram would cost us $18.5M

We are currently projected to be $58M over the cap. We are going to have to extend guys (and frick over later caps) and do post-June 1 cuts (and frick over 2024's cap) just to get legal.

Not a bad time to go about doing that considering the entirety of the NFC South will be dog shite.

We need to tank next year. Tank harder than ever before. Theres good QBs in the next draft. Signing Derek Carr is a directionless move.

This why I said Winston might have to be the qb by default. Or someone like Baker that wants to be the starter but will play for peanuts. It’s time to get this mess under control. This should have started last off-season.

I wouldn't say we're without direction. We are going to have to begin a long-term rebuilding plan after a decade of title contention and our HOF QB retiring and HC leaving. It happens.

This. I think the biggest reason it feels this way is Dennis Allen and his "stay the course" approach that was clearly left over from Payton and partially comes from Mickey. Not changing OCs after this year is just inexcusable. Idk how they could watch those games and come away with "you know what, let's run it back"

Part of the reason we sucked for so many years after 2013 was Payton and Loomis refusing to change until it almost made Payton quit. Only then did Loomis finally make some changes in the FO and scouting department and Payton let go of a bunch of his buddies (Johnson, Vitt, McMahon) and get newer and better coaches in (Hodges, Nielsen, Mike Nolan.)

Honestly, Loomis might be as big of a problem as DA. Now that he's lost Payton, I wonder if his heart is really in it or if it's time to promote him out of being our GM so he can hire someone of his choosing, but someone that's hungrier. Loomis doesn't feel any pressure to perform because he knows Gayle isn't getting rid of him no matter what happens.

I would say more like 2-3 year rebuild. But it really depends on how well we draft the next 2-3 years. We really have to nail the next several drafts. We can't afford any Peats, Davenports or Turners.

We need Hendrickson, Kamara, Vonn Bell, Pete Werner level quality in the 2nd and 3rd rounds for the next 2-3 years to help keep our roster competitive while we rebuild the cap.
