It’s all scheme

It’s not scheme it’s the players. Scheme was fine last week. Got taken behind the woodshed period today.

Vaccaro when healthy was playing lights out last year. It was when he got injured and had his abductor muscle(?) Torn of the bone while trying to play through it is when he looked bad.

Coaches should have sat him. Allen fricking sucks choosing who to put out there (and his scheme and play calling sucks).

It dates back to Browner and Byrd still being trotted out every week when he first got here to take over the secondary.

You mean the vanilla scheme we ran most of the preseason after the starters were out?

Because when the starters were in during preseason and they were running the scheme we ran today it was much the same results.

They were good last year because he was injured. Addition by subtraction.

Davis looked pathetic yesterday. I hope he is not just a player who looked good playing on a bad team last year.

Davis wasn’t great, but he seemed to play better than any other LB yesterday. That’s a low bar obviously.

Having Anzalone and Klein on the field while Robertson rots away on the bench is one of the biggest head scratching moves made yesterday.

I saw him make one tackle for loss and that's about it. There was no tallest midget on our LB squad yesterday.

I dont think he is the worst LB on this roster or in the NFL.

Watch any of our LBs. Which ones you see moving like a bullet to the running back? Instead they are either all off the line, out of position, or swallowed up by Olinemen.

It falls on coaching. None of these guys are swarming to the football. Its like they dont even know their assignments and that falls on Dennis Allen. They are more worried about where they are supposed to be than attacking the guy with the ball. All of them look out of place and lost on the field. Did they write up the defensive playbook in Mandarin?

All the defensive starters looked bad all preseason.
Watching then, none looked comfortable.
The saints are gunna fed the beginning of this season up by tinkering with the D.

It cost us home field advantage last season before they figured out who the best players were.
And it looks to be on running course.

How as a coach you cant seem to understand who your best players are at each position as a whole is confusing. This general rule that since hes a pro he can translate and we can have him switch a position to make us better seems to bite this orginaztion each year. The lack of preparation for the season opener is just another nail in the coffin.

To be fair, our defense became good when he got hurt last year.

The keys to last years turnaround were:

Robertson becoming a starter
Vaccaro moving to slot
Bell taking more SS snaps

This year starting off:

Anzalone is a starter (worse off)
PRob is in the slot (maybe a push so far compared to healthy Vaccaro)
Bell is also playing a ton more man coverage because we don't have Vaccaro (way way worse; say what you will but when he was healthy Vaccaro was shutting down the TEs (not named Gronk) and slot receivers).

Also looks like we are starting off just as lost in zone as we did last year.

He was terrible. I lost count of how many plays he took himself out of by misreading the play and hitting a gap that was irrelevant. He seems to simply guess and commit immediately. Sometimes the play was going the entirely different direction.
