The NFL knew the black eye would be pretty bad if they abandoned the city after the storm, particularly given the political and aesthetics of the situation. They told Benson absolutely not.

Tag's is the one who should have a statue in front of the Dome! I remember Benson being very touchy about keeping the team in NOLA when interviewed by the press! The NFL saw the bad potential optics of moving the team and they intervened.

Take down the Benson statue at the Superdome
And replace it with statues of Paul Tagliabue and Jerry Jones.
Those 2 are the reason Tom Benson was blocked from moving the Saints to San Antonio.
