We've been through rough starts before and NEVER blamed Payton. 2007, 2008, 2010 are examples. Brees got more blame than Payton ever did.

Last year was a little different and this year (especially today) is really different b/c it's so obvious that he's missing the mark on drive after drive after drive. We only have success when we lead with the run - that's when the passing starts to flow. And yet he doesn't stick with this formula for success. It's maddening, especially after we saw the run carry us to victory in Philadelphia and keep us in the game in Seattle WAY better than the passing did on our previous trip up there earlier in the year. I had fully thought that Payton had turned it around after he saw the run key us to victory in harsh weather in Philly.

Surprised? No, nothing on this board surprises me any more. I definitely don't agree with most of it. There are some legit complaints, but today Payton is getting more blame than Ryan and the defense, which I don't agree with.

You're right. Who should we blame instead when we go into a timeout and emerge with a false start, sack, busted play, etc, as happens constantly under Payton? The waterboy?

Defense gave up 19 points.

Defense deserves a share of the blame, but if playcalling was better we wouldn't be going home with 2 losses.

We had a RB who had the hot hand both games, but the playcaller was the one who cooled him/stopped him.

Defense is not playing up to par, but the Browns' offense started on average at their own 45 yard line in the first half. Who's to blame for that? Offense. Its give and take, you don't give the defense any help or rest when they're constantly playing with a short field.

Held the running game to:
30 carries
122 yards
4.07ypc

Hoyer to:
24/40 (60.0%)
204 yards
1 TD

Manziel to:
0/1

total: 324 yards of offense, 28:10 TOP, and 43.8 3 down completion%.

Just a fyi, our defense gave up 305.7ypg and 19.0ppg last year.

That's the same browns team that went on the road last week and scored 27 points, rushed for nearly 200 yards, and went for 389 yards against pittsburgh.

Defense played well enough to win.

We have the:
2nd ranked offense
5th ranked running offense
6th ranked passing offense
1st 57.7 3rd down completion%
2nd with a 5.69ypc
2nd in scoring with 29.0ppg

Yet we lost by 3 and 2 both games, the issue is lack of turnovers, sacks, and giving up stupid plays on defense. On offense, its us being so 1 dimensional to the passing game when somehow we can produce so well on the ground.

There is absolutely no reason that Ingram should be getting less than 15-20 carries a game when he's doing that well. We could be getting them to load the box more and opening passing lanes/deeper routes because safeties have to move up. But we aren't for whatever reason.

My biggest complaint is the blown leads the defense gives up almost routinely against the two minute offense under Rob Ryan.

No, the super bowl win is a distant memory at this point 2009. How many playoff games have the Saints won since the super bowl year, not many. I think it's time for Benson and the power that be to start a look for a new coach. SP had a good run here, but it's time to move toward the future and SP and Drew in company are on a downward spiral.

And I agree, we saw it against NE/Carolina last year, and we saw it this year in both games. The defense did have a nice few stops last year against atlanta and chicago (sorta).

Both these games came down to the defense getting played, but the offense left points on the board both games.

@ATL: the ill-advised INT in the redzone
@Cle: the sack/bad protection that knocked us out of FG range

came down to =<3 points both games, 3 points mattered both times. We could easily be going home 2-0 right now. That's why its still early to panic. What I do have an issue with is the fact we're 2nd in YPC and 5th in the running game, but we NEVER commit to it.

Ingram is running out of his mind, we need to feed him more.

Yeah fans are so stupid they want the Head Coach to be held accountable when his team shits the bed 2 weeks in a row because of bad play calling be it on defense or ofdense. Dumb fans what do they know ....but bring your 1000.00 to the dome so you can get decent seats in the nose bleed section and pay 50 dollars a beer next Sunday and I'll think about running the ball and addressing the glaring issues that I'm paid so well to address

To me, part of Payton's problem is his ego and his bromance with Drew....Together they built this team and made it a winner and they brought life to this team by passing the ball....Even though our Superbowl win came when we were a balanced offense, Payton still wants to prove he can win it HIS way throwing the ball....While Drew is still great and still a top 4 QB in the league, he can't quite do some of the things he could 5 years ago...He cannot make up for Colston disappearing yesterday, or the fact that the WR's didn't hardly get open......But what Sean has got to realize is that we don't need Drew to be Captain America anymore....We have the best running game right now that we have ever had under Payton, so he needs to realize this and capitalize on it.......He's passing to set up the run, when he should be running to set up the pass....Realize that we were getting beat on the pass rush last week and this week, and adjust damnit, stop bein gso hard headed

I just think it's funny that everyone on this board picks a person and blames him while excusing everyone else. For example:

Offense sucked. Defense only gave up 19, they did their job, so we should win if the offense didn't suck.

Defense sucks. We had the lead in the 4th, so if they had done their jobs we should've won.

The players suck. The schemes were there but the execution is terrible. The coaches are OK for now.

These two losses are total team losses that equally sit on everyone from the players (except special teams and RBs) up to the coaches. Brees throwing shitty picks and bad passes, oline breaking down, Payton's retarded iform to empty set motion flip flop circus, Patrick Robinson's 10 point swing for the other team, no pass rush, Ryan's complete lack of adjustments, our corners inability to break to the ball, our linebackers general shite play, missed tackles, the list goes on and on.

Anyone who says either the defense or the offense is not to blame is a moron. This season has been a total team loss both games.

Not surprised at all. This site becomes deuchbag central when the local team loses. It's the NFL, which means parity. Seattle lost too. So I wonder if the Seahawk fans are bad mouthing Pete Carrol? It's a long season fair weather fans. Have faith.
