I wouldn't be opposed to that. Maybe rotate Shanle and Dunbar a little more and see who performs better.
I'm good with that.

I just think in the end you'll have 2 guys who aren't terrible but don't belong on a championship-contending defense.
Why? Not being a dick or anything, I just wanted to know why you think that?

I just think that we're average at best at that position with those two players on board. I'm not saying that we can't do great things while they're still in the lineup. It just doesn't seem that either of those two players will be keys to a championship defense. Fujita and Vilma, on the other hand, are two guys that make big plays and make the defense better when they're on the field.
Just my opinion though.

I think they'll hold the position down, but won't be the difference makers there. Maybe GW can improve that side a little, but we prolly still need to get a stud over there....

He did have a nice hit against Minnesota on the Reggie Bush punt return.
I don't know who it was but I guarantee whoever it was he pinched out a tiny turd after that hit.

I don't know that Dunbar can unseat him, but I definitely think his odds are improved this year. I think that GW's more aggressive-style defense will play to Dunbar's strengths.

I guess I should start coaching because Shanle couldn't start for me in High School.

if he improved his 4.9 from the combine then maybe so
Speed is overrated in linebackers, even more so than it is in every other position.
It's about instincts and aggressiveness.

Look, lets get this crystal clear. Our defense has sucked since before Sean Payton got here. We have been in the bottom 3rd of the NFL on defense. WE NEED TO IMPROVE ACROSS THE BOARD!! Shanle is one of the problems, not one of the solutions to this problem. We need to upgrade this position. Stop accepting below average in the place of average. Shanle is below average. He might be a great guy, but we need a better player starting at LB for our defense. Until the Saints upgrade the defense drastically (specifically at LB), we are spinning our wheels.

3 1/2 preseason games in, has anyone's opinion on Dunbar and Shanle changed. I'd still like to see Dunbar get more PT.

Shanle > Dunbar. Dunbar is getting a little bit better and has a knack for making spectacular looking plays but he's not as good and consistent and dependable as what Shanle is right now.

I heard on the radio during the Oak game that Shanle was the teams Def MVP last year.

Yes, and I think he was second on the team in tackles. The guys saying he sucks just don't know shite about football. He is a solid player, not flashy, but solid. I think some idiot started saying how bad he is, and it just snowballed to every dumbass football fan repeating it. Have ya'll even watched a Saints game recently.

A/ he's not a household name.
B/ he's fair complected.
C/ not hyped up by the media.
this is why people just assume he is not good. he's no multi-pro bowl freak of nature, but he gets it done.

I thought it was the overrunning of plays and lack of ability to get to the qb.

That was a scheme problem remember. That's why G-dubb is here.

Personally I think Dunbar can unseat Shanle but not this year. Shanle is a pretty good linebacker. I think it helps to have Dunbar in case of Shanle getting injured though. If that were to happen then everything is up in the air, but as for now Scott Shanle is the man and should be.

Shanles lack of geting to the qb wtf? O yea 4-3 lbs get so many chances to get preasure on the qb.
