Any of you old timers remember WR Cephus Weatherspoon?

I met him the other day at my country club here in Los Angeles. I pulled up to #2 tee with my Who Dat Saints cap on. This guy walks over to me and says, "I see that you have a Who Did That hat on. Are you a Saints fan?" (I'm not sure how he got "Who Did That" out of Who Dat, but I digress)
I answered, "born and raised in New Orleans and a Saints fan since Day 1."
He says, "I used to play for the Saints. I'm Cephus Weatherspoon." (Actually what he said was, "I'm Weatherspoon." Just like that. No first name, just "I'm Weatherspoon." I felt like saying, "Dr. Weatherspoon, I presume")
Well, I actually remembered the guy from back in the day, when the Saints were still playing in Tulane Stadium. So I say, "I remember you. You were a WR." The guy freaked out. He couldn't believe a Saints fan remembered him after so many years (he left the team in 1973 or so).
Anyway, he gave me his card, shook my hand, and said he still loves the Saints and still follows the team.
I know, :csb:

I don't really remember him playing, but I do remember him being part of the Saints "All Name" team with Jubilee Dunbar, Happy Feller, Bivian Lee, etc. I do remember the other three playing.

I don't feel embarrassed saying that I do not remember Cephus Weatherspoon.

he played 1 game as a saint in '72 and you remembered that?
And yes, I remember him. I even remember when he was drafted. That was back in the day when the draft was still 17 rounds.

but not on the sunday football field. I'm having trouble finding supporting evidence of anything other than that one season.

quote:What I remember of him, besides him being drafted, was that he was a decent return man. I can't remember if he he did much during the regular season, or if I'm remembering him from pre-season games. He must have seen the field some, though, becuase, at least according to him, the Saints traded him to Denver after the 1973 season.

Where are they now?

- Cephus Weatherspoon, only spent one season in the Big Easy ( 1972) and did not record any stats, but Saints fans fondly recall his name and will swear he wore the black and gold for 4-5 years. It's his name.....you just couldn't forget it - See more at: LINK

My first Saints game was against the Falcons in '73 in Tulane Stadium. I was 7. We lost that game 62-7.
Oh and I don't remember Cephus Weatherspoon.
