He was able to rebuild once with success so I trust him to do the same again.

They are indeed.

Payton needs to stay. Best coach in franchise history and there isn't a better coach available.

You'd kiss his arse to get him to stay?

If he's asking to talk to other teams, let him.

After Mr. Benson stuck by him and paid him well, times are tough (times he created BTW), he wants to bail? GTFO.

Drew Brees is the one you keep. Hire a defensive-minded coach that won't interfere with the offense and get some more hardware.

I don't understand, in today's NFL, that more people on this board don't see this.

(I put this board well above the pressed horsecock that is the Rant)

I don't disagree and would not fire him, but if the reports I keep hearing are true...

Fire Loomis

Why?

I'd rather fire Vitt and the rest of the crossfit mafia

Probably not but I am tired of his poor decisions.

Exactly.

That makes no sense b/c Payton and Loomis made every one of those decisions in concert.

They both got the Saints where they are and they both oughta right the ship.

I really think he and Loomis bought hard into the "window" theory.

They made some bad choices and it has cost them.

Brees contract was absolutely not one of those bad decisions.

Loomis has been a solid GM and I'd hate to see him go. I don't want Loomis fired, but if he ends up leaving to work full time at the Pelicans so be it. I really do not want Ireland as GM. He is a great scout. Leave him to scout.

A good plan would be to bring in a new GM and let that GM fire all the shitty position coaches. It would solidify his power in the organization. Like Payton did when he started here.

That's pretty good, but Payton has to agree to that. And he, like Loomis, has veto power.

Look, they made some choices that were mistakes. It happens when you hire people. (Shrugs)

That said, if Payton is the "genius" everybody says he is, let's see him coach out of this.

I also think it is clear that w/o Brees, the win total just in the past 2 years, is much lower.

Dude. He can't coach every player at every position. His refusal to fire certain people is really infuriating. The fact that MacMahon still has a job is fricking mind blowing. Look at our special teams these last few years. Think about how shitty it is to be driving down the field with no timeouts and the field goal unit isn't ready to run on the field.

Unforgivable.

Now overhaul in the scouting department and bringing in Ireland was a great move. We had arguably our best draft under Payton. Easily top 3.

So with some young new talent and what looks like an improved scouting department let's see what Payton does next year.

That said, if next year we don't develop this talent and our offense continues to be stale, unimaginative, and predictable, then it's time to look at new HC options or at the very least a new OC.

By coach out, I meant hire better assistants, including a new DC.

Oh I got you. And I obviously agree.

And I'd love to see a new DC. I'm definitely not sold on Allen leading the entire defense. Bring in a strong defensive mind that can light some passion and some fire under our d.

Also, even if you're upset with Payton, the list of replacements right now is not very impressive. I'll take current Payton over the eligible guys.

Apparently. We added Anthony and Kikaha as starters on defense, a promising rotation DT in Davison, CB depth w/Swann... Good young players. Throw in the DL UDFAs (Richardson, Barnes, Eulls) that made the team and Breaux and the D has been stocked with young talent. Guaranteed All-Pros yet? No. But another draft like '15 and the D is moving up. And Vaccaro stepped up, this defense as bad as it was has potential. I know, I know...

Yeah, I'd prefer him to stay for just the reason you cited.

I put a lot more value on Brees than Payton, though. And I would definitely not beg Payton to stay. I really question if Payton can win w/o Brees.
If Payton finds another place ( cough, Miami) that Gives him total control that owner is making a big mistake.

I think we will see an unknown step up in the Benson group in the offseason that was not heard of previously.

Very few sane rational people want Sean to go.

No I want Payton and Brees to stay.

I want Loomis, Browner, Byrd, and Spiller to GTFO.
