We scored with more than enough time for the defense to get the ball back.

If the defense gets one stop those 15 yards get it done.

Maybe. I doubt Brees could get 7 with less than 1:30 left and no timeouts. You have to remember, if they get the stop they likely punt and the saints have to go 80+.

80 yards with a QB who can’t push the ball down the field?

The defense being bad and Brees not being able to threaten the defense deep aren’t mutually exclusive.

Drew’s limitations are locking up this offense. They are a good team but the offense clearly is bogged down

No Mike Thomas is a major problem. He opens up so much for everyone else it’s crazy.

This was a TEAM loss but if you think Drew's physical abilities haven't fallen off a cliff then you are blind.

Oh that’s fair. But I feel Drew can’t elevate the play around him anymore. He’s limited outside the pocket and in his arm so if there’s a breakdown in the line he’s left stranded and our line ain’t perfect. But Thomas is our beet player no doubt

This. When there's no threat of even taking a shot at a deep post route or vertical up the seam, safeties are going to play closer to the line of scrimmage & corners will be more willing to play tighter against underneath routes without the fear of getting beat deep. That's football 101.

The defense did plenty considering they were on the field 36+ minutes. Drew and co had multiple sub 2 minute punt drives. They were horrendous.

The wer on teh field 36 minutes because they couldn't stop them

Their first TD was 6+ minutes

2nd half

5:02 minute drive TD
6:46 minute drive Fumble
4:34 minute drive TD
3:28 Minute drive FG

They were on the field 36 minutes because they couldn't stop their offense.

And how many drops?

I dunno, you tell me. I didn't see that mahy. Montgomery dropped one but I also saw Brees sail one on Cook (Cook bailed him out by getting an OPI) and he missed a wide open Hill and it wasn't close.

I don’t blame him for the loss, but he doesn’t look as good as I’d like.

This. It's not just the lack of arm strength with Brees causing problems. Brees used to have some of the best footwork I've ever seen when it comes to maneuvering in the pocket. He also had an uncanny feel for the pass rush & when he needed to step up or float around.

Even in 2009, there were many times he got pressured immediately yet was able to side step rushers & find receivers downfield. That ability has gradually eroded away just as his arm strength has. He looks stiff in the pocket now when he used to be very fluid.

At least four catch-able drops in the first quarter.

I don’t disagree, but it’s no different than the other greats who’ve gotten old. You need playmakers.

The saints have Thomas and Kamara. With no Thomas, someone else has to step up. It was the Kamara show tonight and that’s typically not going to cut it.

ETA: Brees isn’t going to carry the offense and neither are Kamara or Thomas on their own.

We've had Thomas & Kamara for our last 3 playoff losses as well. What you are hinting at, could win a team 10-11 regular season games against lesser opponents but come playoff time, good defenses will take those 2 players away & squeeze the field from Brees inability to stretch the field. This is exactly why our offense has bogged down in all 3 of those losses for long periods in those games. Twice against Minnesota.

It was the same thing against Philly at home in 2018. The team was lucky to win that playoff game to advance to play the Rams in NFC Championship after that terrible offensive showing.

Get Thomas back, and maybe sure up the protection.

He isn't moving around in the pocket like he used to, we need to protect him a litter better.

We have 1 good WR. He isn't playing.

Also our corners can’t cover without committing DPI. I don’t know how you compensate for that but they have to change something. It’s crazy. QBs just chucking it knowing they have a decent shot at a 35-plus yard penalty
