t.. That move would have looked genius if the QB situation had worked out (HB).

Maybe but the plan is flawed when you start it with a defensive HC and a back up OC that didn’t even want the job.

Dalton wasn't in the picture at the time.. In 2021, before he was hurt, Winston was doing a pretty good job.

Not worried about the cap

Um, why?

This "kick the can" routine only works as long as we're good. We are not good and we're in a world of shite, now.

Yards passing in the games he played:

148
111
128
226
279
222
56 (injured early)

That is absolutely nothing to write home about, and in several cases downright anemic.

So I challenge the notion. The draft cap they used this offseason should have been directed at getting a QB.

Because Loomis always figures it out.. Other teams have this problem when you have 1 or 2 elite players.. I will say they gave Hill way too big of a contract.. Not every team has a Brady that will take a cut to sign other players..

Winston was night and day considering what he was in Tampa.. He made improvements and that is all the Saints can ask..

No, we should've drafted best player available and waited until 2023 for a better QB class.

Why do y’all do this to yourselves?

At the end of the season they’re gonna be fighting for the last playoff spot

2024 is realistically our next chance to improve as a team

The best thing the team can do right now is to just clear off players that have bad contracts this offseason and STOP kicking the can farther than that. If we play it right, by 2025 we can have a much cleaner cap and have had a couple years of drafts to try and recover

If this team keeps trying to seriously compete it's going to make the rebuild even longer

We relied on Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton. I hated it at the time and even though we got a really good player, I hate it now.

But the reality is, they were the best options available at the time. They tried to go all in on Watson, then Clev threw everything at him and guaranteed it all. Do you really think going after Bridgewater, Mariotta, or Tyrod would have ended with better results (especially considering the injuries to date)? And that's assuming the Saints didn't try and any of those guys wanted to come here.

Unfortunately, they need to kick the can down the road on a lot of these guys just to get under the cap in 2023. And once they do that, it will cause them to be over the cap in 2024 (which they are basically knocking on the door of that cap too)

Everything should be about getting a QB. Everything.

I would draft a qb with potential in the top 3 rounds every single year until I hit on one. Like, if I’m the Steelers, I’m taking another qb even though I drafted Pickett. Why are Lions waiting for number 1 pick to draft a guy?

Qb scouting is very much not an exact science. You don’t have to find one top 5 or even top 10. You just have to be willing to keep throwing those darts until you find the guy.

I feel the same way. I think it’s crazy teams don’t do that.

Yeah I address this in my thread on it.

Hell, I still have no idea how we exit the Taysom Hill contract. We basically have to convert and kick the hit down the road every year, which makes him extended in perpetuity

Post 6/1 trade to wherever Payton goes? That new team takes on Hill's $9.9M guaranteed salary, Saints eat $4M in cap space in 2023, and let ~$10M in dead money fall into 2024?

Assuming they don't convert his salary into a signing bonus to push his cap hit down the road

That's my fear. His cap hit is too big to deal with, so we push it down the road, making it bigger in later years...when we'll need to restructure because his cap hit is too big to deal with, so we push it down the road, etc.

Saints are going to let him walk for nothing but a token pick that will have no impact in making up for the Top 3, if not Top, puck we gave the Eagles.
You can stick a knife in the franchise. It is done and over.
The Aints are officially back long term.
