king was abused by hardy and devin thomas.

well i can't compare hardy (obviously), but thomas v indiana: 14 catches for 148 yards and 1 TD

I do agree that trading all of our picks on day two and pick #40 to get Jenkins would have been a good move and I am not sure that the Cowboys did not start to hear something like that when they moved up. I don't think we called anyone and offered that but it would have been a good move by us.

I liked the 1st round pick but I would have rathered get one of the very good receivers or fred davis, or dan connor than this porter guy I have never heard of. Looks like another jason david to me

how many of those catches came against porter?

bottom line is that king was inconsistent this year and porter was solid all year.

WRONG!!! WRONG!! WRONG!!! Jason was a cover 2 corner which is very different from a pure cover corner which Porter is. Cover corners fits the Saints defensive scheme. Evidentally they thought they could convert David to a cover corner based on his speed but we know how that turned out... Porter is a good pick and could potentially see a lot of playing time on defense with a good chance of being a starter in '09.

Hey SFP, 3 other CB's were taken in round 2 after Tracy Porter, by GB, NE, and NYG. Still no Justin King. Looks like the pro scouts ddn't like the guy as much a you did. Doesn't mean they're right and you're wrong. Scouts make mistakes every year. It does mean that your opinion on him is not widely shared by pro scouts.

Just because I would wnat to trade away picks we will end up cutting. Lets see what happens on day two to see what was the right move. And it was not me that said we should trade away our all our day two picks it was your boy SFP.

the guy is fast and tested and good. he played against good receivers in pratice and in games. he had great workouts, he had a great senior bowl..

and oh yea... we suck at corner and our best corner is hurt and not getting any younger...

GOOD PICK!!!!!!!!!!!

that's what i was trying to say

taking a project CB who is an athlete but doesn't like to play run D and has bad footwork could be had later

i mean i hope porter turns out well and solves our CB problem, but i was just saying project CBs would be there later. it isn't that porter may not be a better CB than king, but the value is very different

if we had gotten a FS and a diff project at CB (who was only slightly worse), i think we would have been better, no?

TSN:
quote:

Is a better athlete than football player; gets by relying on athleticism instead of technique. Lacks a consistently straight backpedal, and struggles to flip hips when using bad footwork. Does not consistently transition out of backpedal quickly, hindering ability to close. Allows completions on passes he should break up. Does not always compete hard; sometimes is deliberate in run support and often gets blocked

ESPN:
quote:

Weaknesses: Lacks ideal strength and only adequate bulk. Not physical enough. Needs to get stronger and tougher in order to hold up in the NFL. Does not support the run nearly as well as his 2007 tackles total (83) would indicate. Looks to avoid contact as much as possible. Will get pushed around at times and struggles to get off of blocks. Also allows bigger receivers to dictate routes.

NFL Draft Countdown:
quote:

Doesn't have the bulk you look for...Is not very physical...Has to get stronger...Is just an average tackler...Will have some trouble getting a jam at the line...Gives a big cushion and will give up some easy catches..Marginal technique and footwork

Footballsfuture:

quote:

Porter is a quality cover man, but he lacks the size to match up with physical receivers at the next level. He is going to lose out in one on one situations and it is not something he can really change. He shows some ability to help out in the running game but his lack of size and strength limits him in this area.

it is pretty much a consensus that at this point he will provide nothing in run support

also many have labeled him a better athlete than technician who gives up a lot of cushion

do you think he's ready to start at CB for the saints next year? honestly

so you basically go to all the draft sites and quote his weaknesses?

come on dude

quote:

who gives a shite about run support? we need him to cover WR's, which we didnt do last year. Supporting the run is the LAST thing you look for in a corner.

quote:

No, I dont think he will. I dont think there was a CB left that could have came in and started.

Not every 2nd round pick is drafted to be a starter. That doesn't mean they are a project

pat lee would've been nice but his speed is questionable ....

wheatley could be a steal if the pats system...anotehr samuel in the making...undersized, good ball skills and plays bigger than he is

yeah, i told you where i got it from

i agree, but generally coaches in the NFL won't play CBs that don't play the run unless their name is deion

but i have a feeling it will keep him off the field next year
