The players in bold are all under contract next year. The only 3 big contracts that might be dropped are Fairley, Strief, & Fleener. Fairley is a given & Strief/Fleener could even be asked to take a paycut.

The 3 RFA's are Brandon Coleman, Snead, Breaux. Zach Wood (the LS) might be as well.

Obviously Brees, Kelemete, Okafor, & Vaccaro are the big UFA's. We're basically set up perfectly (going into the draft) if we retain Brees & Okafor. Vaccaro is important as well, but we can get by without him if forced to imo.

The young players we have under contract on defense (Thomas & Kamara on offense) are very promising to our future imo. That & our investment in the O-Line.

QB - Need to retain Brees or another F.A. QB to start. Drafting a QB in the 1st round is a very real possibility.
-Drew Brees (UFA)
-Chase Daniel (UFA) - I assume we re-sign him for cheap again.
-Taysom Hill (555k)

RB - We're basically set here with our 1-2 punch next year. Might need to add a #3 RB, b/c this will be Ingram's last year on his contract.
-Mark Ingram (6.2mil)
-Alvin Kamara (878k)
-Daniel Lasco (630k)
-Trey Edmunds (555k)

FB - Not a big deal. League minumum contract at this position.
-Zach Line (UFA)
-(IR) John Kuhn (UFA)

WR - Gotta assume Coleman is brought back. Snead is more of a question mark, but I expect him to be back as well. Adding another WR in the draft is also likely imo.
-Micheal Thomas (1.4mil)
-Ted Ginn (4.5mil)

-Brandon Coleman (RFA)
-Willie Snead (RFA)
-Tommylee Lewis (632k)
-Austin Carr (555k)

TE - This position is all dependent on what happens to Fleener.
-Coby Fleener (8.0mil)
-Josh Hill (2.8mil)
-Hooman (1.9mil)

OL - We have our starting 5 O-Lineman under contract. Our backups are the question marks going into next year
-Terron Armstead (13.5mil)
-Larry Warford (9.0mil)
-Max Unger (8.0mil)
-Andrus Peat (3.6mil)
-Ryan Ramczyk (2.0mil)
-(IR) Zach Strief (5.1mil)

-Senio Kelemete (UFA)
-Josh LeRibeus (UFA) - I'd be surprised if we didn't re-sign him.
-Cameron Tom (555k)

K - Lutz seems to be the guy on a great contract.
-Will Lutz (630k)

P - That's a big cap number for a punter. Still, I'm assuming he plays here next year.
-Thomas Morstead (4.9mil)

LS - Not a big deal. League minumum contract at this position.
-Zach Wood (RFA...at least I think he is)

DT - Assuming that Fairley is off the books, we might add another guy here. We might actually be able to get by with the guys we have here though. I'm much less concerned than I was going into the season.
-(NFI) Nick Fairley (7.0mil)
-Sheldon Rankins (3.5mil)
-Tyeler Davison (759k)
-David Onyemata (766k)
-(IR) Mitchell Loewen (557k)

-(IR) David Parry (UFA) - Assuming he's healthy...I wouldn't be surprised if we re-sign him, & give him a chance to make the team.
-John Hughes (UFA)

DE - Retaining Okafor is a must. Kikaha is going to need to beat out Muhammad next year.
-Cam Jordan (14.2mil)
-Alex Okafor (UFA)
-Trey Hendrickson (755k)
-Hau'oli Kikaha (1.7mil)
-Al-Quadin Muhammad (593k)

LB - We have 5 solid options under contract. Drafting another LB is a very real possibility though.
-AJ Klein (5.2mil)
-Craig Robertson (2.0mil)
-(IR) Alex Anzalone (826k)
-Manti Te'o (2.8mil)
-(IR) Nate Stupar (2.1mil)

-Gerald Hodges (UFA)
-Michael Mauti (UFA)

CB - Top 3 guys are legit. Not sure what will happen with Breaux, but we probably draft a guy at this point.
-Marshon Lattimore (3.5mil)
-Ken Crawley (632k)
-PJ Williams (906k)

-(IR) Delvin Breaux (RFA)
-DeVante Harris (631k)
-Justin Hardee (555k)

S - This position is all dependent on what happens to Vaccaro (might need a vet F.A. if Vaccaro leaves). Still think we draft a guy here for depth, even if we bring back Vaccaro. Bush & Banjo shouldn't be looked upon as long-term solutions.
-Kenny Vaccaro (UFA)
-Marcus Williams (1.4mil)
-Vonn Bell (1.1mil)

-Rafael Bush (UFA) - Cheap short-term depth.
-Chris Banjo (1.8mil) Only 100k in dead money if cut.

Dead Money according to overthecap
-Jairus Byrd - 4.6mil
-Adrian Peterson - 1.25mil
-Stephone Anthony - 971k

I agree. Hopefully we can afford him. That's going to be tough though.

Thanks for laying this out. Doesnt look like very many holes going into next year. The holes are big but few (QB, safety, maybe add O-line depth, and DE). I don’t think you can count on resigning everyone, however. Vacarro seems like the type that would go for more money, just my gut feel.

All that said, could make for an interesting draft with some freedom to pick the best player available. I bet we pick a QB high.

I think he gets a 7-8m annual. He's shown he could be an above average lineman, versatility is another bonus

Yep. Assuming we re-sign Brees & Okafor...we literally don't have any holes as far as starters go. I assume we can afford more than just those 2 players, but O-Line depth & secondary depth would be the only 2 concerns in that scenario imo. Re-signing Vaccaro would take care of the problem of secondary depth though (same with Kelemete & the O-Line depth). This is even before the draft happens. Obviously things can change with injuries & players possibly regressing, but we're in a really good position as of right now.

I mean concerns for the 2018 season. Finding Brees' eventual successor is just as important, but it's more of a future concern. If CSP's QB target falls to him...I think he'll pounce imo. Hopefully we don't trade up to get a QB, but I wouldn't rule it out. The Bears, Chiefs, & Texans did it this year.

I'll say this: we can afford everyone we want to keep unless someone way overbids.

The hardest thing is going to be fitting Brees in, but there are ways to spread his hit out for the next 5 years regardless of if he plays or not.

We can sign him to a 2 year, $60 mil deal and only pay him $15-20 mil next year if we wanted to.

We could sign Okafor, Vaccaro, and Kelemete to 3-5 year deals and backload them.

It's not impossible to keep all 4. It's really easy IF that's what we want to do, and IF that's what the players want.

How much can we save by cutting or maybe restructure or ask to take less $$ for Unger and Fleener. Neither playing up to their contract and that $$ would go a long ways combined with the Fairley $ to signing Kelemente, Okafor, Vaccaro and brees.

Forgot we could also look at cutting or offering less $$ to Strief.

I wouldn't be surprised if we do all of that and backload the contracts.

We need another solid draft again this year, possibly even more so with us likely taking a QB.

Strief counts 5.1mil against the cap next year, & only has a dead money hit of 1.1mil (saves 4.0mil). Technically that gives us an advantage, but I doubt we can make Strief do something that he doesn't want to. I'd be shocked if we gave him 5.1mil, but hopefully we can talk him into taking a paycut to be Ramczyk's backup. We're in a great situation with Strief's contract.

Fleener's cap hit is 8.0mil next year, & has a dead money hit of 4.8mil (only saves 3.2mil). It would suck to pay him 8.0mil next year. It would also suck to cut him, & take a dead money hit of 4.8mil. Hopefully he takes a paycut, b/c that's the only instance where the Saints find themselves in a good situation (as far as value goes).

I don't think it would be a very good idea to ask Unger to take a paycut next year (like not a good idea at all). He started off slow this year after his injury, but he's played better as of late. If we part ways with with Unger...it will be in 2019 (last year of his contract), when he has a low dead money hit. Hopefully it doesn't come to that though. I hope he plays out his contract for us, & we're smart enough to have his replacement ready in 2020.

Fleener will be taking a pay cut...Book it

I would expect his cap number to be closer to 5 million.

Say we are looking at a qb in the first round and Luke Falk is still on the board with the 32nd pick. Do we go after a qb like that? Who are some other good late 1st round prospects to keep our radar on? If this scenario is that case, hopefully we get have Brees around a couple more years to groom our new qb into the starting role.

He's not a first rounder, but Browning from Washington in the later rounds definitely interests me.

Rudolph and Mayfield in the early to mid rounds could be intriguing as well, although idk how their style of play would mesh in the NFL. CSP made McCown look legit against a good Carolina D, so he prob can work with anyone really.

I don't keep up with this as much, but the KV tweets from last week made it seem like it's a forgone conclusion that he's not coming back. That just a money issue? What's the pulse on him?

Meh, I am not too concerned with letting Vacarro walk. All he's good for is tackling. He gets owned by TEs too often. I know Buffalo isn't that great of a passing offense but we played better without Vaccaro yesterday. There is definitely a cheaper, suitable replacement in the draft somewhere that we can get I am sure.

Looking for it.

Made the mistake by going to paddy's page looking for it since I saw it from his retweet, and that's a nightmare. His in game tweeting is relentless.

Still looking. Maybe it was instagram. Basically was like he hated that he probably wouldn't be here next year because this young unit was the best he's ever played with.

Horrible paraphrase, but I think that's the gist.

Haven’t really gotten used to playing with anybody, but we’ve been winning. We’ve grown so close. I don’t want to leave — not necessarily the business side of it. The team side of it. I don’t want to leave these guys now. I’m like the older brother with a lot of young guys.”
