Byrd was seen as an All Pro safety and since he's been here he hasn't been near that level. I believe that has more to do with DL than his talent magically disappearing.

Major injuries have kept him off the field, and major injuries can force talent to disappear.

There are too many needs to address ok this team, so not all of them will be filled in the draft. When drafting you always pick the best players and not reach for need, and that's what they try to do based off their board.

Yup. I keep saying too we won't get everything we wanted or needed in this one draft, plus there are still FAs out there if we are still lacking in spots.

I'm more expecting a FA guard now than trying to force a need to fit in rounds that are hard to find value.

2nd round we needed another DL or guard. Payton doesn't get it doesn't matter how good the receivers are if you can't block for brees...just absolutely stupid 2nd round pick..

People have such a short memory. We don't need that in the 2nd round. Remember Jahri Evans and Carl Nicks, widely known as the best guard tandem in the entire league during our best years? They anchored the line in our two best seasons in team history in 2009 and 2011.

Know when they were drafted? Evans was a 4th rounder (108) and Nicks was a 5th (164). You don't need to reach for one in the 2nd when you can find one later and get a gamebreaker early on.

I don't get it.
They have possibly the most promising young qb in the league in Carr.

And Carr's get hurt. QB depth is nice. It's the fourth round. This is the time to start looking more at depth than starters.

I think its a strategy McKenzie (Raiders GM) learned while he worked with Ron Wolf in Green Bay.

couldn't tell you their reasoning but McKenzie has now taken a QB in 3 of his last 4 drafts.

QB is a very important position obviously plus they could just flip him for another pick if he does well in preseason or mop up duty. Or what if Carr gets hurt?

Billings is very unpolished. Strong dude with no real pass rush technique outside of a bull rush. Good player though, but overvalued by media I guess.

I agree. It would sure be nice if we could get one of those magical compensatory picks. Who do we have to blow to get one of those?

Injuries are a possible reason. Also having the worse DL in the league isn't doing him any favors.

I agree we can't fill all the holes in one draft and I think you always take the bpa if there isn't a player that fills a need of similar talent. That the disagreement I have with the picks. I think all of our picks are good players and that's why I am happy with this draft. I just think there was comparable talent at more needed positions. The Saints disagree and that's fine but why do we automatically assume they are correct? If the Saints process of drafting was beyond question we wouldn't be sitting here with so many holes. Look at the Panthers. In 2012 they took Kuechly. The next year the took Star Lotulelei in the 1st. WR was absolutely a need for them. In the 2Nd did they go WR? Nope, Kawann Short. That's how they got to the Superbowl.
