“You get a chance to see them do certain drills and I think, more importantly, compare them over the last 10 years to players that scored the same way they did in a broad jump, or in a 40-yard dash, or in a shuttle. But I think more importantly, you have a history of videotape. And I think that really is most important, the production these players had in college.

“And I also think it’s the first time for a lot of us to meet these players. We just finished interviewing a receiver (Friday night) who was outstanding in the room, and you can really visualize this player on our team. And so, those impressions, I think, are extremely important.”

that was back in March...Payton had his eye on Cooks all the way

Positives of the pick:
He was very succesful when lining up in the slot in college which is where I see him 75% of snaps.

He has exceptional ability to change directions at top speed or on his heels. This will come in handy on special teams and more importantly bunch plays/bubble plays/screens. He is very good at getting his hips low and bursting out of the seat to his top speed. Cooks didnt get a whole lot of press man coverage in college and its because of his speed. He is so good at changing directions at top speed that its hard to cover him without the 3-6 foot headstart. Expect the Saints red zone offesne and 3rd down effeciency to rise with him in the game. The biggest trait that caught my eye from watching film on him for about 3 hours...was his ability to adjust his body in the air and bring in the ball. It consistently reminded me of the 2pt conversion by Lance Moore in the super bowl.

His one glaring weakness on film to me was his speed at time caused him to drop or miss the ball. Playing with a QB who is extremely accurate like Drew will mitigate this a little but it will take some time for the two to get some timing down. He is too fast for his own good sometimes and is way ahead of the throw.

Drew has a tendency to underthrow the deep route at times. He will have to adjust now that Stills and Cooks will likely be the new deep threats.

Did you ever see Cooks line up in the backfield or run reverses? I know we will run a reverse with him, but I'm wondering if the Saints will try to run him out of the backfield on occasion.

I watched a couple of reverse plays. One of them he came from the right outside and it was blown up for a five yard loss. The second however was a well known play that they ran a reverse from the right slot almost like an option draw play that he turned into a 50+ yard gain. I see them using him all over except RB. He is not a RB and isnt built like one. It would be way too predictable everytime he is in the game. SP is flashy and likes to disguise things often, but has never had the tendency to use WR's in the back field. You never saw Lance Moore line up in the backfield. If you want to know how they will use him just picture Desean Jackson speed with the hands and effeciency of Wes Welker...but add 20lbs.....hopefully lol

This is one play I was specifically impressed with

Comparing his combine stats to fellow WR's already in the NFL

Bills just traded Stevie to the Forty Whiners. The Bills get a conditional pick next year, which can be a 3rd I think they said.

That play is insane. He can potentially make things really easy on Drew

What if we got Lee too
