Ppl that lead their teams to titles don’t have the”issues” Zion has had since becoming a pro. If I’m sticking to the on court stuff . He is not a leader . He has not improved his skill set . He cannot get or stay in shape. He does not give consistent effort. He doesn’t do the little things . I don’t care how talented someone is . If you don’t do those things you’ll never reach the peak . He is a very good player and will likely stay that until his body quits on him which seems like it will happen sooner than it should .

You could have said the same thing about Shaquille O'Neal. How did that workout for the Magic? It takes time. MJ was 29 before he won a title.

There is still some % chance Zion grows up and becomes a top 5 player/ someone that can win you a championship.

Vs.

Trading him for assets without that star potential and never winning anything.

I'll take a maybe over a never.

In four seasons with the Magic, shaq averaged 74 games a season, 27.2 points, 12.5 rebs, and took the Magic to the finals.

We are in season five of Zion now. He’s played a total of 153 games, is averaging 24.9 and 6.6. He’s never played in a playoff game.

You can’t say any of the same things about Shaq that we are saying about Zion.

That said - trading Zion right now is dumb given his contract and potential.

All those dudes improved big time from year 1 to year 5, and all those dudes were legit top 5 or 3 dudes in the NBA by year 5.

Zion hasn't improved, he's actually declined and is worse than year 2 Zion, and he's also top 30 ish in the NBA.

So those comparisons don't really fit.

Yeah it does...Z was putting up historic numbers comparable to Shaq and Jordan. Z is not without his faults. He needs to improve in the areas you all have highlighted....But its f'n insane to give up on a talent like that at this point. No one in the nba would do that. You never know when you will get another chance with a talent like that.

Then you have absolutely no clue what top end championship-winning talent looks like in the NBA

I didn’t say anything about championship . I said I trust the player more .

If you want to believe that long term Zion will be the opposite of what he’s shown himself to be this far in his career , go for it .

Atleast I know with Brandon , he actually cares about the game and works on his game . Also his game is not fully dependent on sheer athleticism that is already in decline .

The Shaq / Michael Jordon comparisons from other post are absolutely absurd and I’ll leave it at that .

Zion will be a good to very good player as long as his body holds up . He almost certainly will never reach the “generational talent “ level or mvp caliber level.

I would bet on Ingram having a longer and most likely more productive career .

The basic question is do you want to structure the team with Ingram as its highest paid player at $50 million+ a year, who gets the most shots and gets the ball in crunch time? He's a one-time all-star, never all-nba at any tier, who doesn't shoot three-pointers and is not a defender. How does that work, exactly?

No one could possibly think that is a good idea. Ingram is no longer an asset if you pay him more than like 40-45 mil per season.

He becomes the new Tobias Harris, khris Middleton, bradley Beal.

We shouldn't. Someone else can try if they wanna and if so just facilitate it.

They may not think it's a "good idea", but you can bet they're kicking the idea around based on things like "loyalty" and "family" or some other BS narrative
