The problem with Tyreke not starting was the lack of minutes when Monty was still trying to break him/learn to trust him. He was starting to do pretty well in a bench role in the limited time that the Finishing Five were healthy.
Again, I think Monty was looking out for Evans' health by regulating his minutes. Of course the player wants to be out there, but Evans had some tricky injuries that are only healed by rest. There really wasn't any other reason for him to be playing the minutes he was IMO. Unless Monty is just that dumb and stubborn, which some will obviously say

I'm sure the injuries played a part, but Monty said more than once including during the season he was still trying to figure out how to use Tyreke. I don't think he figured it out until he shut down Aminu and started Evans.

He's not dumb. But he isn't really a guy that embraces the way the league is moving in terms of small ball. Having 3 guards like he has isn't easy for anyone to manage, let alone a guy who is from a more traditional/positional mold.
Maybe he was covering for injuries, but a few times he made comments to the effect that he had no idea how to use Evans.
ETA: I agree that Evans off the bench makes the most sense with the roster as is. But he needs to have the ball in his hands, not Rivers or Roberts. That has been an interesting part of the BSS Glory Days series.

What?
The only SG on the team isn't coming off the bench. Not to mention he's started 113 out of 115 games he's played under Monty Williams.
Rivers or Evans (or whoever you think would start at the 2) is funny
Why is it so far-fetched that Tyreke at the 2 would be better than Gordon? It could definitely work if we had a 3 that could actually hit a 3(and that's a need regardless of who starts)
Gordon has just been average(MAYBE slightly above while staring).
Tyreke's long range improved as well in the 2nd half.

It would be hard not to.

16/64 from Mid Range, 7/44 from 3 in 44 games before the ASG.
8/31 from Mid Range, 14/45 from 3 in 28 games after ASG.
We're looking at about 20% of his total FGA from those 2 spots. Would love to see him get better there, but really not that important in my mind.
~65% of his shots come from the RA. He went from 50% at the rim pre ASG to 55% post ASG. 55% still isn't very good or even close to his career average of ~60%, but does offer some hope.
