This helps their package but I don’t know by how much.

Dumping Crabbe and gaining Prinfe is a difference in about $15m in cap room and Prince is much better than Crabbe at this point in their careers.

OTOH, trading the 17 and next year’s first (even lottery protected) heavily limits what the Nets can offer, pick-wise, because they now have no 2019 pick and can’t trade any pick before 2021.

Per Woj:

Hawks trade Prince and 2021 2nd for Crabbe, #17, and 2020 lottery protected first

Does this help their package to acquire AD? I think it does i.e. Prince and #27 on draft night...

On the surface, terrible trade for Nets. Way too much to give up to unload Crabbe. However, it appears they are opening up cap space for a run at a top free agent or two.

I don't think this helps them at all in a trade for AD as I am sure the Pelicans would rather have #17 and the 2020 1st rounder than Prince.

I'm not sure. I wonder if there was any truth to that story earlier about the Knicks possibly wanting to move down from 3 to get 8 and 10. 8, 10, 17 and Collins doesn't necessarily move the needle for me, but John Collins and 3 may be something. Honestly, I haven't watched much Collins outside of a small sampling of highlights.

this essentially takes the nets out of the running imo

can't they not trade a first until after 2020 now? no picks to offer so the best you can do is dinwiddie allen levert and others? gross

I find it strange that teams are allowed to make all of these moves while the teams still playing are kind of left out of the process.

Help the Nets package? No. It arguably makes it worse. This could possibly be a reaction to discussions between Griffin and the Nets and the Nets decided they weren't going to be serious contenders for Davis.

Atlanta had been motivated to keep No. 8 and use 10 to trade back for a future asset, league sources tell ESPN. Now, Nos. 8, 10, 17, 35, 41 and 44 give the Hawks the flexibility to move up -- perhaps as high as Cleveland's pick at No. 5. Hawks GM Travis Schlenk has options.

And how many max free agent targets are there?

Wonder what the best way to attract those top dollar free agents would be.

In a roundabout way it might help if the Pelicans are interested in making an offer to Russell as a restricted free agent in the event the Nets let him go.

* This is assuming a sign & trade involving Russell is not possible.

If anything this makes the knicks more thirsty for AD or guys like Jimmy Butler or Kemba.Watching Kyrie and KD chose Brooklyn over them would be tragic for that franchise lol

I'm super curious as to how this effect Danny Ainge willingness to trade tho.

knicks can be thirsty like frick... besides #3 (not even that high on rj) and Mitch Rob... they don't have much of anything desirable.

Go for it, Danny. You’ve been salivating over AD for years. DO IT

So in a draft that isn't a lot different from 4-14, this opens the possibility of the 4 pick turning into the 8, 10, & more.

hmmmm.

Attempt at summarizing for everyone:

Hawks now have picks 8, 10 and 17 in the first round. (Not to mention an extra first next year too)

Nets dump the contract of Crabbe, taking on a much cheaper Prince. This allows them to possibly sign two max free agents.

The ONLY way the Nets get to two max slots is by renouncing the rights to DeAngelo Russell, making him an unrestricted FA.

This completely takes the Nets off the board for Anthony Davis, and also could greatly scare the Celtics from going all in. Not good.

This does however put a ton of pressure on the Knicks to get something done. I find it hard to believe they can “slow rebuild” around the poor prospects they have, all while Brooklyn loads up.

This one trade that has nothing to do with us, may have moved the Knicks and Lakers to the front of the line in AD discussions. Oh how the NBA can be fun.
