To the hater that said people here are making up scenarios in their head, the details of Hart's contract confirm what others and myself thought all along...
He doesnt want to be here, we really dont want/need him either, but Hart's agent nor the Pels brass, AS OF NOW, could find a willing party to do a sign and trade to satisfy all parties.
But, his contract is structured specifically to utilize him in a trade, sooner than later. If he plays well (which he better bc he's basically playing for a deal again this year), the Pels WILL use his contract (basically an expiring contract) amongst others, say Didi, Gabriel, and picks, to go after a player we want at the deadline. I think Griff learned his lesson with holding on to Lonzo last year and regardless of Hart's play and/or our chase for a playoff spot, he WILL be traded at the deadline. So, he is being paid a few extra M's to accomplish this goal, be a good sport and likely got some assurances that he will get the opportunity to showcase his talent for other teams, which benefits both parties.
So, while I may have erred in the timing of a Hart trade, its rather obvious that Hart's remaining time in N.O. will be short-lived and my overall prediction remains very accurate.
I hope he BALLS OUT, bc that just means whomever we try to get at the deadline, he becomes that much more attractive to the other team to consider our trade package. What's more, the other team, if they do decide they want him, has him locked in for another year by picking up the option by the July deadline, making his contract that much more attractive to include in the package. From Hart's perspective, he's not relegated to having to play for a team he doesn't want to for more than a year and half--max. Solid contract for both parties and the prospective team he eventually goes to.

I was talking about the rare mutual option
Asik only had a small amount of guaranteed money in year 5 out of the 12 mil
That's not a mutual option. That's a fairly common partial guarantee, in which the player has no say over what happens.

I can't find it now but I swear he also had a player option on his 5th year. Maybe one of the salary cap sites I used back then had the 5th year color coded wrong.

Whoever invented all these rules is either a genius or a complete nutjob.

3M was guaranteed in his 5th year, which the Bulls ended up taking on.

Guys. I am not disputing he had a partial guarantee allowing the team to cut him cheaply. I’m saying Asik’s contract also had an Early Termination Option (player option) in the last year.

Asik has two years remaining on his contract, and the final season in 2019-20 has an early termination option.

The NBA has removed Omer Asik's deal from the Chicago Bulls' salary books via career-ending injury/illness, freeing up an additional $3M in space, league sources tell

I think Early Termination Option is their way of saying a partial guarantee
That is not correct.
quote:
Early Termination Options An early termination option gives the player the right to end a signed contract. The option cannot be exercised before the end of the fourth year of an existing contract, which means the contract must be for five seasons. If the player declines to exercise the option, he remains with the original team. If the option is exercised, he becomes an unrestricted free agent and is free to sign with any team.
Early termination options are always held by the player (in other words, there are never team early termination options). A contract that has an ETO cannot be extended if the ETO is exercised.

They both had ways to end the deal. Chicago is the one that chose to end the deal early because why would Asik end his deal? He was done. You only exercise an ETO if you expect to get a new deal.

Maybe an overpay but he's still a positive asset with that contract. Looks like we are setting up/ collecting contracts for future trade flexibility.
Lol. No we’re not.
