Willie interview with Marc spears

quote:

When it came to an end, how did you take it?

Willie Green: I was disappointed, to be honest. You still have to process that and grasp how to move forward. And so that’s what I’m doing now. I’m moving forward. But definitely disappointed. I’m disappointed for a number of reasons. One of them, there is a part of you that feels like you gave it your best, but your best wasn’t good enough. There is a part of you that felt like I needed more time with that group. So, things like that, but disappointed and a little bittersweet, if that makes sense.

Willie Green could have had 2 complete lifetimes with that team and the results would be worse.

Sums it up. Great dude but not a great head coach.

I will say that it was refreshing to have him here and our players actually want to stay. It may have been a weak culture but a culture was built. Credit is due there.

Agree. Willie seems like he really is a good person and he may have success elsewhere, but it was time to go.

He is grateful "even for David Griffin who wanted to fire me" (said this in the interview)

Griffin was right. You suck

Willie had no adjustments. He would have the same rotation in no matter who was hot, who was cold or what the other team was doing. Sorry, Willie no time with the team would ever change that.

Phil Jackson said it best. After a few years your players simply dont hear your message anymore. Sometimes its 3 or 4 years, sometimes longer, but unless you're one of the GOATs they'll eventually stop listening.

I think Willie got dealt a shitty hand (Zion) and did the best he could, but he plateaued as a coach and didnt change enough or get better.

Willie would've had Zion and Looney finishing that game last night and would've gotten blown out by 20. Its refreshing having a coach who plays players according to the matchup and who's the most effective offensively that game.

Never forget that this man had Hunter Dickinson start the season as the first big off the bench and tried to find every reason to bench Queen until he couldn't anymore.

That pissed me off to the highest level of pisstivity. My only problem with Willie this year is that we let him dig us into too deep of a hole before the front office fired him. He should've been gone around game 8

Sure, as long as somewhere else has a prime Draymond, Steph, and Klay

Unfortunately, Willie had WAY too much time. This season is wasted because of Gayle's meddling or Dumars' indecision. Willie is a fine assistant but clearly not cut out to be a head coach.

Funny to see him say that out loud. My opinion was always that even he realized he didn’t know how to turn this thing around. He had no answers.

Inadvertently just gave David Griffin the best PR he's had since he was hired by the Pelicans.

In a way he’s right.

If Willie had ruined them any more, Borrego might not have been able to salvage the season by dangling the prayer of the play in tourney.

I’m so happy he’s gone.
