Willie has got the squad playing fantastic ball without their best player. Maybe I’m hopelessly optimistic but I think Zion comes back healthy and we get a playoff series. Who says no to +10,000 odds for Willie for COTY after that turn around? $5 into $500. I mean Alvin Gentry has the exact same odds for God’s sake.

No for 2 reasons:
1) Taylor Jenkins has done a great job in Memphis and deserves it.
2) COTY is a kiss of death award and the team almost always does worse the next year.

I don’t think it’s a lock for Taylor Jenkins. JB Bickerstaff has a strong case also. No one thought CAVs would be this good.

I was trying to see if an NBA coach ever won COTY with a losing record and saw Doc Rivers did with a .500 record and missing the playoffs in Orlando.
ESPN.com had Hubie Brown winning coach of the year in 2003...but they Grizzlies were 28-41. I think they fricked up the year because he rightly won in 2004 winning 50 games.
