Will the Pels do anything big and unexpected in FA?

I think most people expect this to be a very uneventful offseason. No real draft pick, most likely to sign Boogie to some kind of deal and do not much of anything else.
What do you think the chances are of the Pels doing something COMPLETELY out of left field that no one expects? I'm talking a trade for, let's say a CJ McCollum level player, or a massive salary dump, or signing a player no one even contemplates?
What is something that you haven't seen ANYONE else mention that you could see happening "realistically"?

I'd say there's a 2% chance the Pels get in on PG/LeBron and a 5% chance the Pels are part of that by extension with some sort of Boogie S&T like Boogie for Randal.

It doesn't even sound like Kemba is on the market anymore, at least right now. I'm thinking the window for guys like Kemba/McCollum will be during the season after their teams start off slow enough to force changes.

I think Plan A is to bring back Rondo and Boogie and that really limits the potential for surprises. Any out of left field guys will probably be more from unexpected opportunities than out of the box thinking. Like before Jokic got the max deal today I didn't think Will Barton was an option in FA. I now think he is an option at the taxpayer MLE and that would be a pretty big get. Cocoloco mentioned the Suns are going to cut Elfrid Payton soon, and he seems like a reclamation project worth taking a shot on.
Speaking of guys we could have had instead of Jrue, is anyone actually going to give Nerlens Noel a big contract? Is a 1 year deal on the taxpayer MLE with the Pels crazy? He'd get playing time in a friendly environment where minutes are available to start the year and he becomes a FA again next year when there will be a lot more money available to be squandered on questionable FAs.

Nerlens Noel goofed big time.
He turned down 4/70, I really wish he would’ve taken that. Dallas would be stuck with that terrible contract. Would make them a non threat for Cousins
As far as him being the backup guy here, that would be interesting. Davis/Cousins/Mirotic/Noel as your bigs is absurd on paper. I feel like Washington might give him a look and would offer more, he’d likely start there.

If it's unexpected, then we don't know what to expect.

that he did.
I'd love to get him. I think our kentucky guys can get the most out of him, and he'd without a doubt be a great defensive player to play with Mirotic or Cousins when AD is out.
Having 4 guys like that down low would give you the ability to hopefully ease Cousins back in, and allow AD to not have to play so many minutes while still being competitive.

If the Pels do sign Noel, I can't wait to see the marketing campaign. #DoItBiggerer

I agree. You cannot replicate what Boogie brings plain and simple. This should be their first plan. But money will determine if it'll get done
If Boogie decides to sign with another team, then things get very interesting. Then those big and unexpected things will happen.
When it comes to a sign-and-trade, the only one I'd do is for a Porter or Middleton kind of guy. Those have been well documented on how difficult/likely they would be. Short of that, I want us to save what little cap was have. Ideally, we dump the contracts of Solo and Ajinca, dropping us to $75 mil in salary. Well, let's say $80 for resigning Rondo. With the luxury tax scheduled to be set at $123 mil, we'd have $43 mil to play with.

I'm still so lukewarm on Barton. He just doesnt fit with our roster imo. He's a 2/3 that doesn't play defense. And Elfrid Payton is a younger version of Rondo with a lower IQ.
I don't mean to rain on your parade but I just don't think either of these guys provide value.

Look at it this way, if you get Barton for the taxpayer MLE you have a player that is at least equivalent to Moore but on a cheaper deal.

Barton is worth way more than the MLE. I bet he can fetch 15-17 mil a year easily in today’s NBA.

He’s 27. These next 2-3 years are are prime years.
I think he gets a pretty hefty contract.

I think Cousins and Rondo are gone. Davis' super max makes it impossible to resign Cousins.
Pels signs former Celts, Cavs and Lakers point guard IT.

WHo is going to offer him that?
Teams that will have 15 mil+ to work with
Lakers: They will at the very least get PG.
Bulls: They have Valentine. I could see them going after Barton, but not at that price
76ers: Robert Covington is better. They are also wanting one of Bron, PG, Kawhi
Hawks: They have Taurean Prince, who is really solid.
Kings: They have Bogdanovic (he plays the 2 and 3), who is really good. They have Justin Jackson as a project. I could see them going after Barton, but not at that price.
Mavericks: They have Harrison Barnes
Indiana supposedly has interest. If this FA were like a couple seasons ago when teams went apeshit because of the cap jump I'd agree with you. I think he'll get somewhere in the 7-12 range per year. Maybe* he gets a Middleton type of contract at 14 per.

If the market drives his price down, which could very well happen, I have no problem with signing Barton at a good price. And we had a more complete roster, again I'd have no problem with Barton
I just feel like our money is better spent first on the massive void at SF. Second on a guard (starter quality) to help with our aging PG with a limited skill-set (that we still need to sign). And then whatever is left over on the bench.
Just my opinion. Again I don't disagree. Im just worried about Dell shooting himself in the foot with overpaying a mediocre role player.

How do you all feel about Garrett Temple, Joe Johnson, Lance Stephenson or Mario Hezonja as a cheaper SF target?
