Tacko Fall is the only one in this draft who can do that. But Hayes has a standing reach of 9' 2.5".

My wife’s a Longhorn so we spent, probably, an excessive amount of time debating the Jaxon pick last night. (But that’s not why I’m dropping my first ever post; been lurking for half a decade). Once she began to swing me to her side about this being a quality pick, a big part of the optimism was me fully believing that Zion will definitely develop a consistent 3 point shot himself, like so many greats do after they don’t need it in college (even though he had the best 3 % on the team, however low volume). The thought of Zion with a league average, or above 3, along with his incredible bully skills, while having Jaxon clean everything up like a wild man running around and jumping over everyone, is exciting.
After seeing the Jaxon jump shot video (not great form but looks comfortable...and not bad form considering it’s like the 5th one he’s taken in a year and half) I’m on the “he’ll develop a shot” side too while Zion is also jumping out of the gym on put-backs and PNRs. And all of that for the next 5-7 years makes for a lot of fun in the front court.
Surprisingly what hasn’t seemed to process (here anyway) is that Indiana drafted Goga while we (y’all) constantly discuss that they already have two bigs who can’t coexist. This board would explode-melt into itself if the Pels had done that. I hope that means Turner is coming because I want him to come teach Hayes how to be him.
I’ll save the post about how I think Jaxon Hayes turns into AD Light over his first 5 years for my monster second post.

Who cares how long you been here for when all you do is post idiotic takes and shite on the team when it doesn't happen

Not replying to you directly just the easiest button to click.
Looking at Hayes’s form in the video:
His right arm is almost at a 45 degree angle. This isn’t how I was taught. Allegedly, you want it straight up and down. However, he is absolutely consistent with this form and seems to have it mapped out well as it translates to a pretty accurate shot.
Should we make him re-learn a new/“correct” form to optimize his release point? Not sure it is worth it with his height. The whole point would be to raise the release point to avoid his shot being blocked. A secondary point would be to increase accuracy. However, as previously stated, he has it mapped out and consistent and it is already pretty accurate.
I love all the moves and picks so far. I think making him re-learn a new shooting form is a “the juice isn’t worth the squeeze” situation. We’ll get the shooting threats in other ways from other players. Hayes needs to bulk up and get sick cardio. Rebound, defend the rim, and run your arse off. The rest will come...just like I have watching this team come together.

How is it an idiotic take stating we drafted a nonshooting big man to a team full of nonshooters.. that's fact not an opinion...never have I once shite on the team

Because you don't understand the vision Griffin is taking with this team. They will lock up on D and play around Zion which will allow them to use their talents in transition

Cause Okafor needs a back-up and he was the best available? Idk. I like the pick. We got cap space. More answers exist outside of drafting a shooter in that spot.

This part isn’t a direct reply to you, but Zion shot 34% from deep last year. That wouldn’t be a bad % for a rookie if he can maintain it from farther out.

In two or three years if Hayes develops a nice jump shot and turns into a really good starting center for us I would gladly eat crow bc that would mean the team is probably doing really well with all the young talent they have and at the end of the day having a good basketball team and competing for championships is all that matters. Just based off the scouting info available to us today I just don't believe he is the right guy for this team

you make good points. for this to be a formidable pairing, one needs to develop a consistent shot. I'd prefer it be Hayes because Zion is so incredible at driving, but only one really has to to make this work
Indy is a VERY interesting situation. I went from assuming that they'd need to move either Sabonis or Turner to them drafting Goga. So I have no idea what's going on lol

I believe Nick Claxton was way better value

Yep. That’s why ole boy said it was Lonzo-esque, I’m sure. It’s definitely coming just off the left side of his forehead making his elbow kick out, or vice versa. Because it looks comfortable/ smooth (and accurate on the few they showed) unlike Lonzo, I agree, probably doesn’t need to be retooled...maybe tweaked without causing him to start over. I think he could raise it and straighten it out some without screwing it all up. Happy to see it look like a decent shot when he strung a few together. Just not his game yet. Lots of time to learn while bulking up. With him Zion on the court together (in a couple of years probably,) no one gets to the rim.

She wants to buy a jersey. Told her she has to wait until at least after FA. I don’t think Hayes is the pick if we’re looking to trade, but we’ll wait it out a little longer.

In years we may have other shooters and not need a stretch 5

Ha. Yeah man. It’s been fun watching the board go from fun to crap to dead to good and back. Same on the Recruiting board. Had to give that one up because, Saban.
But thank you brother!
Agree with you though. Not to understate the challenge of it, if Hayes can develop a jump shot from anywhere outside of 10 ft, he’s got a ton of potential and would certainly elevate Zion through the roof.
Baffled by the Pacers. Just sitting back to watch that unfold now.
