1. Jack/Vasquez
2. Gordon/FA/Belli
3. Gay/Aminu
4. Davis/Ayon
5. Okafor/Smith

for some reason people are against bringing in a 5 tool player who can defend. he might be overpaid but we aren commited to any big contracts besides oak for another year. we would be atleast as good as the clippers an they were a 5 seed. Gay has 4 years left and Gordon is going to GET a 4 or 5 yr deal so they would be expiring when it's time to pay Davis.

If you bring in Gay to go along with Gordon and Davis not only WILL we be in the playoffs, but all of a sudden NOLA becomes a destination spot for FAs. who wouldn't want to play with a Gordon/Gay/Davis core??

You are completely missing the point of what the hornets are trying to do. We are trying to rebuild, not overpay players. If we sign rudy now, we wouldnt be able to keep Gordon and davis longterm.

Gordon is getting his extension this summer. They would be able to keep both for now.

but if Gordon pans out and gay is what he has been you already have 2 stars as well as a budding superstar in Davis. all we would NEED are the MLE depth players to round us out. RYno you don't seem to realize that the whole "rebuilding" thing gets people fired. Dell and Monty want to be in the playoffs, not the lottery. A Gay/Gordon/Davis trio puts us right there with OKC in 2 years...especially with SA and LA fading fast. TAKE the BULL by the HORNS....or GET the HORNS

Gay has 3 years remaining, not 4.

Sure we could. We have Gordon's Bird Rights and can go over the cap to keep him. Gay would expire before Davis's big deal came up.

Rudy Gay we know is good. He gives us the insurance that we are getting a star. The draft gives us a chance to land a star cheaply. If our luck keeps we should pick in the draft and our pick at 10 will be our Big Three member.

Way too expensivem. You don't build a winner by trading for bad contracts

at some point we will have to overpay players

the question is if we can get a guy of gay's quality to overpay

the spurs gambled on rjeff's bad contract a couple years ago, too

pau gasol's bad contract is how the lakers got him for an expiring, marc, and 2 late 1sts

zach randolph's bad contract is how the grizz got him for peanuts

kendrick perkins' bad contract is how the thunder got him for a reasonable deal

Pretty much.

There seems to be this recurring theme among some posters that the only smart thing that the front office should be focusing on is some pie in the sky perfect rebuilding approach that pays off 3 to 5 years down the road. Those posters should wake up. Demps, Monty and, most importantly, Benson want to make moves (and waves) sooner . . . like within two seasons or so.

People seem to forget that OKC really only had one completely shitty season. Plus they're a different team with different circumstances.

Signing Gay is not the same thing as signing Posey.

they're basically like the thunder in terms of being young and upcoming. they've just been unlucky with injuries

gay and randolph just don't mesh in the locker room

good teams always trade for bad contracts. it's typically what puts them over the top

bad contract only hurt in terms of, well, money. but it's usually a great way to get talent for cheap. it's a wise use of economic resources in terms of giving up talent/picks for what you'd usually have to give up
