Why didn’t we run any set plays in the final 2 minutes?

Don’t get me wrong I love Ingram but you could tell he was pretty gassed by the end there, and we just kept running iso ball with him at the top. Should’ve tried to get the ball to Zion in the post and him attack instead of settling for jumpers.

Too many times I see teams trying to burn clock with the lead and end up taking contested jump shots.

Maybe watch the nba more.

It’s called having a closer. That’s what the ends of games boil down to. BI just needed to make 1 of the 6 shots he missed in the last 3 minutes.

Keep feeding Ingram. It's part of his development. This is the next step in his progression.

I get having a closer but that doesn’t mean he’s gotta take every single shot down the stretch.

I think the issue was going to it too early and also the entire 4th quarter.

Well it’s his job to make the decision on what happens. I don’t mind him taking “contested” mid range jump shots that he squared up well on. But he needs to trust his teammates more. He missed Adam’s for a nice roll once and he missed Lonzo for a wide open 3 once I. The last two minutes.
Like I said, he makes one of those jumpers and we win. Those mid range jumpers are not bad shots by any mean, especially when he squares up

They had an ice cold Redick and Hart in the game in OT. I'd be real mad if Ingram didn't take over in that instance.

It’s a dumb reason but majority of nba teams do this. BI still should have passed out to someone. Had Zo open rig but next to him for a 3 in one of those possessions.

from shamit:

Brandon Ingram is 8/28 (28.6%) for 27 points in the 4th quarter this season so far.

He has a USG of 36.4%

A lot of those misses are from tonight alone though. This is the first time he REALLY struggled down the stretch. He missed like 6 in the last 3 or whatever minutes.

He has been clutch pretty much every other game.

Ok... 8/22 isn’t very good either. He needs better help. Either with play calling or just players in general that are capable of creating their own shot. Our guards aren’t capable of that.

Agree OP. Would’ve liked to see Ingram attack with more time on the shot clock in order to avoid those contested jumpers.

Those aren't contested jumpers. They are open jumpers. A defender putting a hand up while our 6'7" BI with a 7'3" wingspan elevates for his jumpshot does absolutely nothing to him. He has zero concern whatsoever about the defender affecting that shot in any way. He simply didn't make them, and a few times didn't make the easy pass to wide open guys.
I'm not goign to complain about him taking those shots though. I'd rather he have the mentality of i'm going to win this for my team as opposed to leaving it up to someone else to win it. If they were forced contested shots, like the last one in regulation, then i'd say do somethign different, but all the 15 footers he attempted and missed in the last 3 minutes were all good shots for him.
I can promise you BI thinks he lost the game for us last night, even though JJ sucked, Lonzo is an idiot, and SVG sat there and watched those two act like idiots giving the game away with 2 timeouts in his pocket.

Just not a fan of those jumpers. At the same time, who’s BI going to pass to out of that? Ball? Bledsoe? Reddick was terrible. Not many options last night. So I see what you’re saying to an extent.

It blows my mind Ball and Bledsoe couldn’t tighten it up and handle a simple press though. That shite was embarrassing.

Well they were good shots, and I trust he'll make them more often than not. I think he got tired, and that's why he missed those jumpers, and that's not an excuse i would accept for missing them. Doesn't matter what kind of shape your in, you'll be even more tired in the last 3 minutes of a playoff game, so figure it out and make the shots that matter.

And Ball played well last night outside of the brain fart turnover in the last 10 seconds. He was wide open for 3 on one of BI's jumper, and he probably should have passed it to him on that one.

We were up 10 with 3:30 left and the ball.
BI missed jumper.
Zion misses a dunk somehow.
Zion gets blocked, BI gets fouled and hits 2 free throws.
BI missed jumper
BI gets blocked on drive.
Zion missed layup.
Redick misses wide open 3, with 28 seconds left up 6.
Lonzo turnover
BI missed jumper.

THe possessions before that were in reverse order:
BI and 1
BI missed jumper
Lonzo open 3 made
Adams dunk (BI assist)
Lonzo 3 made (BI assist)
BI jumper made
Zion and 1 (BI assist)
BI enters game with 7:30 left down 5.
BI came in and we went from being down 5 to up 10 in 4 minutes, with him being a part of pretty much every bucket.

well neither of them are actual point guards, so it's not surprising.

We lost that game because JJ didnt get the lil foul call he wanted at the end and sold out to get it to the point of giving the ball away.

Maybe don't flop. maybe hit the wide open 3 he had right before that.
Maybe call a timeout when you catch the ball Lonzo.
Maybe call a timeout when you see Lonzo catch the ball coach, or anyone else on the court.

Not gonna blame the refs for us blowing that.

I dont mind the Iso BI mindset down the stretch, but for 7-8 possessions straight after he’d played 40 minutes already is asking a lot of a tired body
