We all know that the agent schedules workouts not the players.

I don't bother trying to read into a guy's psyche what it means that he's just getting on a flight to the next city his agent has sent him to.

There are plenty great players in the league that wouldnt workout with teams pre draft

I'll be surprised if they allowed Burke to do anything more than they did in Sacramento... which is basically a bunch of drills.

Mike Malone was guarding him in the Sacramento workout.

No Otto Porter workout for the Pelicans

quote:

Agent David Falk confirms Porter will work out only for the teams with the top three picks: Cleveland, Orlando and Washington. That means Falk, who is Washington-based, feels strongly that Porter can go no later than the Wizards’ No. 3 pick. I’d heard as much from various NBA sources.

Might not directly affect us but might as well add this one too:

Cleveland continues to get a lot of calls on the No. 1 pick and now Noel is also going to Wizards (Fri), possibly Charlotte before Cleve.
Was originally on gonna work out with Clev and/or Orlando. Then scheduled a visit with Washington, now possibly Charlotte.

I guess they think he could legitimately be falling.

Another reason to like Trey Burke.

I really do think the kid's going to be special. I know at the very least that his floor is going to be good-very good. Still not quite sure why so many people are lukewarm on him. Give me a college gamer over some unproductive super-athlete any day of the week.

Fair enough, but it's pretty much diva behavior before doing shite, whether the player or agent is driving it. The agent/player aren't going to suddenly act humble upon getting drafted. Well, they may "act" humble, but their actions aren't going to become humble all of a sudden. Just my opinion, though.

That's still a drill to me. Pretty much non-contact and pretty much a simulation. He already knew before hand what the coaches are going to do(released with little to no contact made) and the shots they wanted him to take during that drill. Monty likes to get physical and guard prospects all the way through their shot. He likes to make them uncomfortable and get them to perform under pressure. Very unpredictable and forces the prospect to try very HARD in order to see how they perform when you attack their weaknesses. You can tell Burke was just going through the motions, Not very much information can be formed during these type of workouts. It's like the NFL QB pro day. Everyone looks great in them. But only a truly good ones can perform under pressure.

This is the word on Burke "he isn't faster, more athletic or a better shooter than Greivis, but if he is he could give us options"

Who he's quoting is another issue entirely, but the implication by using "us" in the quote is that it's a team source.

I saw that and I'm not even sure what it means. The semi-contradictoryness of it reminds me of something Les Miles would say

I think you're over thinking a bit. Most top players do it and have done so for years. They just do what their agents tell them. It is what it is.

That's just it. None of these guys are top players. They all have a lot to prove at this point. If they do slide, they could slide big because of that. The only one that performed on the brightest stage is the one willing to work out. Alpha male.

This can obviously change but it looks like we have no workout scheduled with CJ McCollum.

Pretty sure they're waiting on my Prospects Z Chart thread to mature and they'll draft based on that.

Like I've said in other threads, there is no way Demps doesn't take full advantage of workouts. The first hand information is valuable even if you don't use it this year. So really the only thing that makes sense is the top guys are refusing to workout for the #6 team and Demps finds more value in thoroughly scouting Europe than getting an early start on the guys likely to be around at 6.

However, I do think Demps not being in a hurry to workout guys that he's likely to draft does suggest that he has a pretty good idea of what he wants to do unlike say Cleveland. Maybe that points to a trade but maybe it just points to him viewing the likely fallers as far superior to guys like McCollum.

In the past though they've been pretty thorough and worked out lots and lots of guys, in case of trade backs, trade ups, buying picks, Undrafted Free Agents, etc etc. This year...nothing yet.

Maybe they really want either Burke or one of the guys that can't work out...Len or Bennett.

Yeah, they have to have no serious interest in the guys projected to go after 6 or Demps would have come back and been trying to figure out whether he likes CJM, KCP, or Zeller better. This also suggests no trade back is in the works. Him scouting Europe heavily could suggest a trade/buy in though. Remember Demps saved $500k flipping Warrick for Carroll, the going rate of 2nd rounders. Also the amount of money you are allowed to apply to the buyout of a player like Saric.

I really think we come out of this draft with a Euro at some point. Whether that be at our pick (doubtful), we buy another pick, trade for one, buy a 2nd rounder, whatever...I think Demps wants a Euro, bad.

His mentor sure does like the euros. From the MSB

quote:

"when Pop looks at American talent he sees many players who "have been coddled since eighth, ninth, 10th grade by various factions or groups of people. But the foreign kids don't live with that. So they don't feel entitled," he says, noting how many clubs work on fundamentals in two-a-day practices, each lasting up to three hours. "Now, you can't paint it with too wide of a brush, but in general, that's a fact."
