Seems to be a good bit of Adams bashing on here.

What would last season have looked like without Adams at center? Could Jax have been successful starting from day 1? Would he have developed as well as he did? Would he have held up?

Better.

You would have used the money and pick elsewhere.

The problem isn't adams so much as it is giving up assets to get him and then immediately extending him to a deal that is probably 25% or more above market before even seeing him play for us.

I agree that the extension was bad and hard to understand. I just think that the beginning of last season could have been a real cluster without him.

It's not that simple. You tell me the team goes after CP3 instead of Adams, it's much better. You tell me they keep George Hill and add Baynes, I don't think it's any different, and maybe it's worse. All of the MLE center targets we talked about like Baynes practically played themselves out of the league, or at least into future minimum contracts.

I also think Adams contributed to Hayes' growth. Hayes and NAW showing improvement towards the end of the season is probably the most important result from last year outside of Point Zion.

If they would have used the pick on a guy like Desmond Bane, it would have definitely been better. At the end of the day, who knows who they would’ve targeted with that pick tho.

hayes was nowhere near ready day 1 season 2.

one good thing would have been picking 4th because pels would have loaded up on ping pong number balls. luck into the top tier.

I still have Adams in my post in pels 2021 2022 projected starters thread.
hes working on a 3 pt shot.

He can't even shoot a free throw.

Honestly, it’s not the trade it’s the extension.

As a stop gap veteran center who was supposed to put up serviceable defense idk how you hate him.

The issue is the rumors Zion won’t sign a second contract. Getting to 8th place doesn’t do you any favors. You can’t get better drafting one the late teens and 20s consistently

I really think Griffin was trying to add a few defensive pieces with contract expiring right when Zion enters his prime, we need cap space and flexibility.

From Will Guillory's mailbag in The Athletic today:

quote:

Another thing to keep an eye on: Adams has been working a lot this offseason on his 3-point shot. I’m not saying he’s going to become Brook Lopez all of a sudden, but I’ve been told he’s serious about adding an outside shot to his arsenal with the hope that it’ll extend his career.

One source told me he’s been in the gym this summer, working out three times a day to be more consistent with his outside stroke. When asked how Adams has looked in these workouts, the source exclaimed, “He’s been shooting the snot out of the ball!”

He’s simply trying to save his career, so we don’t send him to Siberia (aka Cleveland)

Adams is done and he can’t shoot. Even the clip he released, he bungled the catch and release, he was stepping out of bounds, etc. I’m assuming he though that was his best highlight so he shared it. I’d hate to see the rest of the film.

Last year would have been less frustrating without Adams. I think a lot of us expected him to be an above average player that helped changed the culture of the franchise.

IMO, he ended up being worse than Favors and year 1 Asik.

Bye bye adams. Hope your cute little look at me workout noise fools a GM into letting us dump your salary on them without us having to relinquish an asset.

See I don’t think Favors was better, so I don’t bash the Adams move much.

I understood it at the time. Lock in a very good, veteran C for a few years to just get you solidified there after Favors fizzled out and went back to Utah to be a backup., That first year number was high, but i mean, there’s overpaid players all over the NBA, What’s one year of that. And even the extension. If they want to do one then why not get it done then instead of dealing with a rotating door of Cs at this point.

I mean he didn’t the world on fire and he gets a ton of the “no spacing” blame. Which sure, he probably doesn’t help it. But maaan i put way more of that on Bledsoe drawing 0 coverage out of the paint either. And I’m fine with getting upgraded over. (Shoot I like Hayes enough to where I wouldn’t hate to see him start some.
