Exactly what leverage does management have in the BI contract negotiations? Seems to me he has all the leverage how can we not pay him and he’s the only player who dresses for games and actually performs like a star .. oh let me guess we still building around our imaginary cornerstone Zion huh ??

What leverage does BI have? We can’t pay him the max under the new cba. So if that’s a dealbreaker for BI, we either hope to trade him or let him walk

Lmao what leverage does BI HAVE ??? Umm let me see he’s averaging 25 while shooting the 3 ball at 40% we can start there first

I mean he’s not doing either of those things, but I have liked him taking more 3s. BI is a quality player, I’m not knocking him and I’d love to keep him, but the Pelicans can’t afford to pay him $50M/year

The leverage we have is that no one is willing to
trade for him and pay him what he is asking for.
If he was more highly coveted and valued league wide, he’d have a lot more leverage in contract negotiations.
The leverage that he does have is that we risk to lose him for nothing if we do not meet his contract demands. But at the same time, he is also risking getting an injury like Boogie (or more random blood clots) and never getting paid any significant amount of money by any team if he continues to drag this out.

He’s played in 85% of games at an above average per. He will get a 3 or 4 year deal/35a year this off-season but not from Nola. My guess

for sure, but in this context I thought we were talking about a max contract. I don’t see BI having leverage there because he’s not a max player in the current cba and we literally can’t afford it unless other moves are made.
I’d totally pay him $35M per. He’s worth that

From my understanding; he’s still under the max lottery paradigm. If that deal isn’t made, he falls to a veteran minimum paradigm. Griff\loomis have no leverage. He can score 22 a night just pulling up inside the arc.

Two words, boogie cousins. Ask him if he regrets not taking a long term deal while healthy. Want to take a guess at how much money he lost.

You know you aren’t obligated to pay every borderline all star type player like a superstar right?

how can we not pay him
If the moment a guy signs a contract, he immediately becomes a negative value, you should not sign him to that contract.

No one wants him at the price he wants...

2. No one wants him on their team tight now, but he has leverage?

Correct. Windhorst says that regularly, and it's a great way to evaluate a contract: would other teams want to trade for the guy at that price?

We still don't know for sure about the recent calf soreness. I think that many were convinced that he was sitting out some games due to his contract and changing agents, but BI always takes forever to come back from minor injuries, so who knows for sure?

His leverage is that it would look bad if we got nothing for him.

They are in the Eastern Conference. They'll be fine.

Still think the best play is to bet on his market not being there and stick to the numbers they set going into the season and him being open to re-signing once he realizes this.

Yep. There's still a good chance that, in the offseason, we can offer him more than anyone else.

Bump. Baw got hurt. Pels now have even more leverage. It’s a dangerous game that Ingram is playing rn. Dude is often injured and has no trade market. He should have been jumping on a 4yr 160 Mil offer.
